Fireside Chats Update

Fireside Chats Update

A few weeks ago, the key council leadership conducted fireside chats with leaders across the council with the purpose of two-way communication.  The fireside chats were help in West Sacramento, Folsom, Rocklin and Corning and brought together Scout leaders from as far as Redding, Davis, Cameron Park, Elk Grove, Auburn and all over the metropolitan Sacramento area.

The topics were as varied as the leaders, ranging from online advancement to district communication to properties to family Scouting.  There were some topics in common with all 4 of the locations, they include, training in online resources, Family Scouting and properties.

Camp Physicals

Annual Camp Physicals

Saturday, March 17, 2018 9:00 am to Noon

There is no Fee. However, a donations (suggestion $10 or any amount) is welcome and goes to support the CSUS - School of Nursing.

The nursing faculty and nursing students from the CSUS School of Nursing will provide camp physicals for Scouts and Scouters in Golden Empire Council. This type of clinic has been done in the past to accommodate those attending Boy Scout or Cub Scout Summer Camps (BSA Medical ABC),  Boy Scout High Adventure Camps (each base has its own form-Click here) or a National or World Jamboree.

What to expect?

We are scheduling 20 appointments per 1/2 hour. Appointment times are: 9:00 am, 9:30 am, 10:00 am, 10:30 am, 11:00 am, 11:30 am and 12:00 pm.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. There are stations setup with participants moving from station to station. Process should take about 30-45 minutes.

Drop-ins are welcomed, but schedule your appointment to ensure getting in!

Local Scout Honored by CAL FIRE

 

Local Scout Honored By CAL FIRE

 

Spenser Schultz from Troop 63 in Sutter Creek was honored by CAL FIRE for his efforts in providing hands-only CPR training to more than 150 inmate firefighters and staff at CAL FIRE Conservation Camps.  Read more about Spenser and his Eagle Project here.

Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year

Parker Getz, an Eagle Scout from Troop 121 in the Discovery District, had his project selected for the Golden Empire Council Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year for 2017. Parker’s project was a video about Allergy Awareness.  .

New YPT Training

 

New Youth Protection Training and Guidelines

There is a new Youth Protection Training! It is being called YPT2 and replaces the current version. All registered members will need to be current in YPT2 by October 2018. You will recognize the new version because there are four (4) distinct modules to take. There are no longer different versions for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, or Exploring. Even if...Yes, even if you just took the earlier version or are current within the past two (2) years, everyone will need to complete the new version.  Go to my.scouting.org to complete your YPT2 training.

Date: Saturday, March 17, 2018

Cost: $15.00 includes morning snack and lunch

This conference is for anyone with an interest in supporting a local pack, troop, team or crew with outside input related to a quality program.  The role of the Unit Commissioner is perfect for parents whose children have aged out of the program or program leaders who are looking to give back in another way.

The keynote speaker is Larry Taylor, Golden Empire Council., Chairman.

The Golden Empire Council College of Commissioner Service offers the following degrees for those individuals that would benefit from advanced training:

  • Associate of Commissioner Service (includes Commissioner Basic Training)

  • Bachelor of Commissioner Service

  • Bachelor of Roundtable Arts

  • Master of Commissioner Service

  • Master of Roundtable Arts

  • Doctorate of Commissioner Service. 

    (The Doctorate of Roundtable Arts degree is part of the Doctorate of Commissioner Service degree program)

World Scout Jamboree

24th World Scout Jamboree at the Summit in 2019

  

The World Scout Jamboree is the largest camping event organized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), gathering as many as 50,000 Scouts and leaders from 169 National Scout Organizations.  The 24th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) is co-hosted by Scouts Canada, Association de Scouts de Mexico, and the Boy Scouts of America and will be held at Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve in West Virginia.  The last time the United Stated hosted a WSJ was in 1967 in Idaho.  (read more)

Leadership Training
 

  • What is Wood Badge? It is an adult leadership training put into the context of Scouting. It will strengthen the Scouting programs for the youth you serve. The leadership skills you learn will support youth that attend NYLT and you will have the experience of a lifetime with passionate Scouters around the council like yourself.

Boy Scouts of America is pleased to bring the learning closer to home with the launch of ScoutingU with eLearning content. So far, 19 modules, each ranging from 4-12 minutes in length, were designed to be viewed on a computer or tablet any time of day–from anywhere.  If you are already position-trained, it will not affect your "Trained" status. Access the content by logging into My.Scouting.org.
