Scouting for Food

Scouting for Food is a nationwide Boy Scouts of America community service project in which Scouts canvas their local communities collecting food for their local food pantries.  All Units, Scouts, leaders parents, siblings, family members, and friends in the Golden Empire Council are invited to Help!  Scouts obtain satisfaction and demonstrate how they may serve others by providing a valuable and needed service to the less fortunate in their communities.

The Scouting for Food website for the Golden Empire Council has been updated with all of the tools needed for the 2019 Scouting for Food campaign. Please click the link below to find information to share with your unit for our March Scouting for Food event.

National Scouting Historian Summit at Philmont

Success impacts everything around it, and that is what Scouting has done for over a century. Yet Scouting’s proven track record for positively impacting the lives of millions of young people is not acknowledged as frequently as it should be.

How do we get the message out where it counts the most?
Empower the next generation of Scouting storytellers!

Next summer, the 2019 National Scouting Historian Summit at Philmont will help equip Scouts and Scouters with the tools and skills needed to do just that. This is a joint program at the Philmont Training Center sponsored by the Order of the Arrow and the National Scouting Museum. In addition to bringing attendees to Philmont Scout Ranch after a challenging year, this Summit is designed to engage historians of all ages so they can learn how to promote the importance of our Scouting heritage in their councils, camps and OA lodges by sharing our “Scouting Story,” a program with over a century of success. Our story reveals why Scouting remains relevant today, and aids councils with membership recruitment and retention.

Guide Star

Golden Empire Council – BSA earned the 2018 Platinum Seal of Transparency late in December 2018, from GuideStar, the world’s largest source of nonprofit information. By sharing these metrics, we’re helping the nonprofits like ours to move beyond simplistic financial ratios to assess nonprofit progress.

We chose to display quantitative metrics such as…

  • Number of Campers enrolled
  • Number of youth receiving services, and
  • Number of youth-lead community service projects

…to represent how hard Golden Empire Council – BSA is working to achieve our mission.

We’re proud to use GuideStar Platinum to share our full and complete story with the world. To reach the Platinum level, we added extensive information to our Nonprofit Profile: basic contact and organizational information; in-depth financial information; quantitative information about goals, strategies, and progress toward our mission.   More than 8 million visitors per year and a network of 200+ partners use GuideStar data at to grow support for nonprofits.

Now Golden Empire Council – BSA members, supporters and potential donors can find in-depth information about our goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress. We’re shining a spotlight on the difference we help make in the world. Please check out our GuideStar Nonprofit Profile and tell us what you think:
