World Scouting is doing a special edition of its annual digital jamboree (JOTAI -- Jamboree on the Air Internet) which will allow youth to connect to others, learn new skills, bring Scouting online, and build new friendships during this challenging time.  This jamboree is intended to foster teamwork and intercultural interaction while enhancing safe social engagement and well-being.

Eagle Project of the Year

Golden Empire Council Eagle Project of the Year

The Eagle Project of the Year for the Golden Empire Council has been selected. Jacob C. from Troop 29 of Discovery District was selected for the 2019 Eagle Project of the Year. This selection goes on to the Regional and National level. They will make their selection before the National Meeting in May. Jacob’s project was the Breen Elementary School Wellness Pathways. He and his team painted pathways in the hallways and blacktop at the school. The purpose of the activities is to help a student self-regulate emotions when stressed at school and is intended for use by all students. The pathways were designed to fit into certain areas. The project included developing the elements of the pathway, planning the layout, designing the stencils, coordinating the construction, and leading other Scouts in the implementation.

KCRA Television did an article on the project at:

Camp Cards

While our staff is working from home, we are working hard to make sure the Camp Cards are ready to go when the Stay at Home Orders are lifted.  When it is safe to do so, the cards will be ready to issue to units.  Because of the delay we will also be extending the time frame for the Camp Card Sales.  We will work with our families as needed to use the Camp Card sales to go to camp.

Training

Although all in-person training events have been cancelled or postponed, this is a wonderful time to get caught up on the wonderful online courses that have been provided by the National Council. You can see what courses are available by visiting: https://www.scouting.org/training/adult/. On this site, you can register for courses and learn more about your position in Scouting and how Scouting works!

As we get more information about our in-person training events we will be updating our training page at http://www.gec-bsa.org/training/62614.

Day/Twilight Camps

Day Camps and Twilight Camps

Day camps and twilight camps provide summer program activities for Cub Scouts from Tiger rank through Webelos.  Camps are held in each district and run from three to five days.  This year the theme is "Down on the Farm".  Our camp directors are planning lots of fun activities for your Cub Scouts.  Follow the link to find the dates in your community.  Registration will also be posted to the link.

COVID-19 update.  We have made no plans for any changes to summer camp and day camp programs.  Please know that if it becomes necessary, we will work with our families for everyone's benefit.  If we make any decisions that will impact our summer camp participants, they will be made with time for families to make decisions to meet their own needs.  We suggest that families do not worry about that right now and focus on staying healthy and positive in our corrent environment.

Jamboree 2021

National Jamboree 2021

Save the date!  National Jamboree is July 21 – 30 in 2021 but we are planning now!  If you have interest in serving as one of the adult leaders, being on the committee to help our youth get to the Jamboree or think that your Scout might be interested, please click here to go to our National Jamboree webpage.  We expect our travel quotes to be in soon and are ready to get started.

What is Jamboree?  The National Scout jamboree is a gathering, or jamboree, of thousands of members of the Boy Scouts of America, usually held every four years and organized by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  Scouts from all over the United States will come together for 10 days of fun and fellowship at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.  The Summit is bursting with so many Scout activities, that it is almost impossible to do them all.  Scuba, zip lines, BMX Bikes, Climbing and Rappelling, Shooting Sports, Arena Shows, and more await your Scouts, so be on the lookout for more information as the registration process goes live in the next few months.  The Golden Empire Council contingent will consist of 220 Scouters, Venture Scouts, and both Boy and Girl Troops from Scouts, BSA.

Golden Empire Council – BSA earned the 2018 & 2019 Platinum Seal of Transparency, from GuideStar, the world’s largest source of nonprofit information. By sharing these metrics, we’re helping the nonprofits like ours to move beyond simplistic financial ratios to assess nonprofit progress.

We chose to display quantitative metrics such as…

  • Number of Campers enrolled
  • Number of youth receiving services, and
  • Number of youth-lead community service projects

…to represent how hard Golden Empire Council – BSA is working to achieve our mission.  We also secured enough recommendations from volunteers to earn the ‘Top Rated’ designation form GuideStar’s partner organization Great Nonprofits.

We’re proud to use GuideStar Platinum to share our full and complete story with the world. To reach the Platinum level, we added extensive information to our Nonprofit Profile: basic contact and organizational information; in-depth financial information; quantitative information about goals, strategies, and progress toward our mission.   More than 8 million visitors per year and a network of 200+ partners use GuideStar data at www.guidestar.org to grow support for nonprofits.

Now Golden Empire Council – BSA members, supporters and potential donors can find in-depth information about our goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress. We’re shining a spotlight on the difference we help make in the world. Please check out our GuideStar Nonprofit Profile and tell us what you think: https://www.guidestar.org/profile/7270989
