Scouting prepares youth for adulthood. It does it by instilling compassion, care and personal responsibility while teaching leadership and respect. It doesn't do everything, for that we still need to be active parents and role models. But it does show our youth that a good life is one filled with thewords every Scout learns as an oath: A good life that is worth living and sharing; A good life that will sustain our community, and our country.

I love Scouting because it stands for values to live by. My dad was a Boy Scout.   I was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Explorer. My two sons were Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts and Venturers. "On my honor" . . . "Do my best" . . . "Do my duty" . . . and "Help other people at all times" are some of those values.  I have constantly used these Scouting values in teaching my children.

I am involved with Scouting because there is no other program that provides the depth of program and the values that the Boy Scouts of America does.

Scouting has an impact on every boys life, even if he doesn't reach Eagle. I am an example of this. I only made it to Second Class Scout, but I still know the Oath and Law of Scouting and these have influenced me on almost every major decision I have made. That short touch with Scouting made a difference in my life and can also make a difference to every Scout.

Scouting is the best avenue of service I have found to match my desire to help my local community meet the demands of ethical leadership development in their youth. I enjoy the camaraderie of the scouters/volunteers in this common effort. I am also reminded of the following comment from Lord Baden-Powell as I serve and recruit others to serve, "Scouting is not only fun, but it also requires a lot from you."

The Boy Scouts has a 100-year tradition and track record of building character and values in boys, young men and young women. I support Scouting. Compared to others, boys involved in Scouting do better in school, get more college degrees, higher paying jobs, are more physically fit, have a better understanding of citizenship and the environment, and gain leadership skills that last a lifetime. Scouting has been a family tradition for me. My father told me stories of his Scouting experience and I’ve passed along my experiences to my son.

I like and support Scouting because it provides excellent fun based experiences to teach and instill life skills and leadership qualities. Scouting is also a rare youth movement that mixes, in a positive and supportive manner, young men ages 11 to 18 and young men and women ages 14 to 20.

Scouting also provides a venue for adult role modeling and a method for a caring community to support its youth.
