El Dorado District Awards

El Dorado District annually recognizes many volunteers each spring at our annual recognition dinner through many different awards. These include the District Award of Merit, Unit Sparkplug Award, Scouting Family of the Year, Eagle Mentor Award, Scouters Wall of Heroes, and the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Looking to nominate someone deserving of any of these awards? Nominations for 2018 are open until April 19, so put in your nominee here.

District Award of Merit (1 per 25 units)

This is the highest award a Scout adult leader can receive for extraordinary service to youth in the district. While there is no required level of tenure that an adult leader must have to be considered for the award, adult leaders with a record of service for the district--either as a member of the district committee or someone who has had a far-reaching impact otherwise to youth in the Scouting program across the district. Nominations for the District Award of Merit require its own special form from the BSA website, found here. As of 2018, El Dorado has 70 traditional units, meaning that two nominees will be selected to receive the award.

Unit Sparkplug Award (1 per unit)

Is there someone in your unit who spearheads activities or is always willing to lend a hand to make things happen? Consider nominating him or her as your unit's sparkplug for the year. Each unit is entitled to nominate one sparkplug candidate per year (except for units with over 50 youth, where an additional leader may be nominated).

Scouting Family of the Year

This award recognizes one family for their extraordinary involvement in the Scouting program.

Eagle Mentor Award

A youth's attainment of the Eagle Award is the pinnacle of the effort Scouting volunteers everywhere put in to teach our young people the lofty values of our program. Our district wishes to recognize those who do extraordinary work to help make these Eagles possible. Individuals considered for this award will have mentored multiple Eagle Scouts and helped guide them along their journey.

Scouters Wall of Heroes (aka Scouter of the Year Award)

Every year, unit leaders provide extraordinary acts of service to our community's youth through Scouting. Leaders chosen for this award for their extraordinary service will be deemed the unit leader of the year for their program level and entered into our district's Scouters Wall of Heroes. One unit leader each will be selected from those nominated across five different categories: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Exploring, and Unit Committee.

Nominees for the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing, and Exploring categories must be a registered leader in the level of the program for which they are being nominated. Additionally, they must be registered in one of the following unit positions:

  • Cubmaster
  • Assistant Cubmaster
  • Den Leader
  • Scoutmaster
  • Assistant Scoutmaster
  • Leader of 11-Year-Old Scouts
  • Crew Advisor
  • Associate Crew Advisor
  • Post Advisor
  • Associate Post Advisor

Unit committee nominees must be a registered member of a unit committee.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Occasionally, there will be individuals who stand out for their many years of dedicated service, usually being a part of our Scouting program for over 30, 40, and maybe even 50 years. One award will be granted each year and the individual presented at a feature of the district dinner's program.
