Eagle Scout Rank Application

LDS Eagle Scout Project Approval Form

Scout and Leader Transfer Form (National version)

Camping Merit Badge Changes
Effective January 2007, requirement #9a now states "...The 20 days and 20 nights must be at a designated Scouting activity or event. ..."  This means that family camping is no longer accepted to fulfill the 20 days and nights for the merit badge.  If the Scout started the merit badge prior to Jan 1, 2007, the grace period expired July 1, 2007.  Effective now he will need to go by the new requirements to complete the badge no matter when he started the merit badge.

Webelos Cross-over Requirement (not!)

"A Totin' Chip is NOT required for a Webelos Scout to cross-over to Boy Scouting.  Council has confirmed that this is an Urban Legend and pops up every once in a while.  Cubs should continue earning the Whittlin' Chip as they have in the past.

Calling All Merit Badge Counselors

Our Dean of Merit Badges is asking all of you who are planning to teach merit badges to fill out a new Adult Application to submit. Please send it to Mr. Tom Simpson. PLEASE DELIVER THIS FORM TO TOM; DO NOT SEND IT TO COUNCIL. Also you are asked to fill out this form regardless of your current registration as this information goes into a separate database. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your help. If you choose to not do so, you are only hurting the boys whom you would like to help. Thank you.

The council Advancement Committee has reminded us that a single Merit Badge Counselor can only sign up for 8 merit badges.  This has been a policy for quite some time but needs to be re-stated every once in a while.

Eagle Scout Count

The year 2007 brought us 55 new Eagle Scouts.  Congratulations to them all, their families.

Congratulations to El Dorado District and all the Scouts who achieved this goal.  And THANK YOU to all the people in the community who helped these boys along the way.

2008 has 7 new Eagle Scouts so far.

Advancement Form Resolutions

Now that we have recognized our Eagle Scouts we need to realize that they all arrived at that point because of proper use of Advancement Forms. From our Advancement Chairman comes the following issues: Common problems with advancement forms:

  • one line representing multiple boys (e.g. name field entered as "10 boys" - need one line per award).  Remember: One line--one boy

  • multiple units represented on form (eg. Troop xxx, Team xxx, and Crew xxx entered on same form - each unit needs separate forms even if they have the same unit number, mostly applies to LDS units).

  • multiple rank advancements shown on same form with different dates (eg. one boy shows Tenderfoot as 9/21, another boy shows Life as 10/03 - all rank advancements on a form must show same date and agree with large box on right side of form, which should also agree with what is entered in boy's Scout book).  One date for each advancement form, no exceptions!

  • date from merit badge blue card differs from what shows on form Whatever date counselor signs on blue card should be entered verbatim on advancement form.

To make your advancement paperwork easier try using TroopMaster! See their website at www.troopmaster.com

Life to Eagle Seminar

The Eagle Advancement Seminar is held at the monthly Round Table meeting the third Thursday of each month. This seminar is designed for Life Scouts, parents and leaders that have questions about the Eagle Scout submission process. Eagle Scout packets can be picked up or reviewed. These packets include the forms for the Eagle Scout Project that must be secured before starting. The seminar includes instructions on projects and packets.

Eagle Countdown

How many people help an Eagle Scout attain that rank? Twelve? Fifteen? Get a pencil and paper and be ready for a surprise! Let's start with 2 parents . . . 21 merit badge counselors . . . 5 boards of review. . . schoolteachers. . .4 camporees. The list should be about 60 people already. How about camp staffs…Scoutmaster and staff…Explorer Advisor… senior patrol leader and assistants…post officers…the institutional representative …troop committee…mothers' auxiliary…district commissioners and public and school librarians. If your counting has been correct, you should have at least 100 people. Each has done his part in preparing Scouts for the Eagle rank. If just 1 had not taken the time or the effort, the entire chain might have been broken. Eagle Scouts can wear their badges proudly and be thankful that so many people really care.
