Here’s a photo from the morning news on Thursday, Sept 2nd on ABC News10 Sacramento. The day before they invite Scouts from our district and local Girl Scouts out to Beal’s Point at Folsom Lake for a segment on affordable last minute camping ideas for Labor Day weekend. Troop & Crew 94 and Crew 1855, all from Folsom, joined us very early that morning.
We did four 2 minute segments, some with the Girl Scouts and some on our own, which featured different things about camping such as fire safety and what to bring while camping. This segment here is talking about free things to do while camping. The Venturer on the left talks about hiking, the two scouts on the ground are playing cards and everyone else is singing a camp song.
It was great to have the media seek us out for this and it really presented a great image to the public that Scouting is still very active in our local communities.

District Roundtable
The El Dorado District Roundtable is held every month on the third Thursday at 7 PM.
You can find us at the LDS Church at 3275 Cedar Ravine Road in Placerville. We are looking for a new Roundtable Commissioner along with a new home for Roundtable, closer to Folsom and El Dorado Hills. If you know someone or some place please contact our District Commissioner, John Falk, at john.falk@sbcglobal.net.
The District? What is that?
"What is the district that I keep hearing about?" A Scouting district is a geographical area of the BSA local council, determined by the council executive board. District leaders mobilize resources to ensure the growth and success of Scouting units within the district's territory. For more information about the district's purpose and for information on the many positions in the district visit our District - What and Who? page.
District Realignment
El Dorado District welcomes Folsom to our district. We are very excited you are joining us in our service to the youth of our communities. With the addition of Folsom, El Dorado District is now the largest in the Golden Empire Council in terms of youth served in Scouting and number of Scouting units.
Friends of Scouting
El Dorado District is building its Finance Team which includes Friends of Scouting volunteers. Are you interested in helping the district schedule unit presentations for 2011? Do you enjoy public speaking and want to help raise some money for scouting? Are you great at talking on the phone and want to help with follow up phone calls to raise money for scouting? Are you a community or business leader that wants to get more involved in scouting? If you answered yes to any of these, please contact Brian Casper, District Executive, at bcasper@gecbsa.org about getting involved in raising money for Scouting. We've raised over $97,000 so far in 2010 and we want to raise over $105,000 by this time in 2011. Join the team!
Popcorn
It's finally popcorn season again! If your unit hasn't signed up to sell popcorn this year please contact Ginger Luzada, District Popcorn Kernal, at ginger.luzada@sbcglobal.net.
For nearly 30 years, Trail's End has been in partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, and their mission has always been the same: to help Scout packs, troops and councils raise the money needed to fund our programs and activities throughout the year. Your purchase helps to pay for the activities our Scouts do, for the camps they attend, and for the equipment they need, like canoes, tents and uniforms.
Unit Commissioners
John Falk, our District Commissioner, is working hard in rebuilding our Unit Commissioner staff. What is a Unit Commissioner? Commissioners are district and council leaders who help Scout units succeed. They coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews. Sound like something you could do? Interested in joining the team? Contact John Falk at john.falk@sbcglobal.net.
Advancement
Are you ready to start your Eagle Scout Service Project? If so, you need to call Larry Hyde, District Advancement Chairman, at (530) 676-5957 before you do anything else. Folsom Scouts can begin calling Larry for help in getting approval for your Eagle Scout Service Project. Great job to the Scouts who have made it this far but DO NOT give up; finish your project and get your Eagle Scout rank. You will regret it forever if you don't.
Happy 100th Anniversary to the
Boy Scouts of America.
