Recognition
The Boy Scouts of America prides itself on recognizing our youth and adult leaders in their achievements. El Dorado District would like to recognize our youth and adults for their various acheivements in Scouting. Please select the following links below for information on these different recognitions and lists of those who have received them.
District Award of Merit
The District Award of Merit is awarded by a District to volunteer adults for service to youth in the District. Dozens of people have received the Award of Merit in El Doardo District. Download the complete list from the Award of Merit site.
Silver Beaver
The Silver Beaver Award is presented upon action of a Council Executive Board of one of the BSA's local Councils for outstanding service to youth within the Council or for outstanding longtime service to youth by a registered Scouter residing within that Council.
Other District Awards
El Dorado District annually recoginzes many volunteers each May at our annual recognition dinner through many different awards. These include Unit Sparkplug, Scout Family of the Year, Eagle Mentor Award, Scouters Wall of Heroes, and the Lifetime Achievement Award. Please join us the third Thursday of May, each year, for the annual recognition dinner.
Adult Awards - Knots
In March of 1946 the Boy Scouts of America announced the first six square knot awards. These awards were to replace the ribbon bars that were being earned at the time. The list of knots has continued to grow. Some knots have been discontinued and others have been added. At present there are over 30 knot awards in the areas of Achievement, Bravery, Leadership & Training, Outstanding Service, Religious, and Support awards. These awards are worn on the Scouting uniform in place of the plaque or large pendant that they represent.
Generally, the knot awards are worn by adult leaders. But there are a few that may be worn by youth members. Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts may wear the Universal Religious Emblem and the lifesaving and Meritorious Award knots.
Are there other awards and recognitions that should be listed here?
Please send a note to the Webmaster for consideration.
