Eagle Board of Review December 16, 2001
- Kevin Alsop, Troop 1
Sierra Gardens Elementary School, Roseville.
I built a retaining wall and planted ivy in it to stop the erosion of the hill and to keep children out. We also removed an old trail leading up to the hill and created a new on leading away from it. Total people involved = 20, total hours = 171.

Sun City, Del Web community, Roseville.
The picture shows an almost finished sign post. The paint makes the signs stand out more for safety. I painted over 70 sign posts. There were four different sections that needed painting. The paint will keep the posts from rotting and breading. Total people involved = 17, total hours = 60.

Maidu Interpretive Center, Roseville.
I painted two bridges and an observation deck on the trail. Before I painted the bridges and deck I had to replace the rotted boards and clean off the old paint. Total people involved = ?, total hours = 205.

Penryn Elementary School, 6885 English Colony Way.
I installed an irrigation and drainage system on a steep bank to beautify and prevent erosion when the growing shrubs stabilize the slope. The end result was two separate sprinkler lines, a French drain with outlets, and two drain boxes with outlets. Total people involved = 16, total hours = 196.

Del Oro High School, 3301 Taylor Road, Loomis.
I built a holding pen for large animals. Size = 48' long, 26' wide, and 8' tall. We used standard pipe to construct the pen. FFA students/members will use it for the raising of large animals for Placer Co. & Gold Co. Fairs. Total people involved = 14, total hours = 77.

Lincoln Cemetery, 1445 1st. St., Lincoln.
I raised theidentifying head stones for 67 graves in the cemetery. They lay flat on the ground and had sunk below ground level and raising them keeps them from being lost and keeps them visible for visitors and grounds people. Total people involved = 33, total hours = 96.

Sun City, Lincoln Hill, Lincoln
The city receives garbage cans to be used by residents in an unassembled state. I assembled 261 garbage cans for the city. This was a more complex job than anticipated because each unit had to be modified before it could be put together because the handles that slip into holes in the lids were too large. The other parts fit just fine. Total people involved = 22, total hours = 181.

Linda Creek, Roseville.
I cleared out the invasive nonnative weed Arundo from a 37 meter section of the banks of the creek. The photo shows the dead remains of the 10 foot high weed after the trash has been removed. This was a demonstration of a new method for removing and preventing it's return so the vegetation can return to a more native environment. Total hours = 169.

Granite Bay Branch Library, 6475 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay.
The picture shows the entrance to the Library 158'nature trail that I made and lined with river rock and markers along the trail to designate important areas. The entrance is marked by a 6' sign I had made and installed naming the plants found on the trail. The trail itself winds its way through a wooded meadow near the library. Roseville Home Start Inc., 410 Riverside Av., Roseville.
I painted the rooms and I made 2 book shelves and filled them with books. Also made a 3 piece splatter shield for the potters throwing machine. I also bought 27 toasters, one for each room. The end result is 2 bookshelves and an art supply cabinet in one room with an area rug to sit and read on. The splatter shields will rest near the pottery machine. All rooms were also painted. Total people involved = 22, total hours = 162.

Very colorful map of the world with each country a different color. Another large USA map had each state a different color.Total people involved = 42, total hours = 215.

Maidu Interpretive Center, 1960 Johnson Ranch Dr., Roseville.
I built an outside theater for cultural events with benches around a fire place. I used 10 cedar logs to make 6 benches, each log was 16 inches in diameter and 16 feet long. Completed value of project = $2969.00 worth of donated materials and professional expertese like the delivery of the logs. Total people involved = 28, total hours = 160.

Kenwood Oaks Park, Tanzania and Kris Way, Roseville.
I installed a 6 ft. bench and a 5' x 5' decomposed granite wheel chair pad in the park. This project is in memory of my friend. Total people involved = 23, total hours = 221.

Penryn Grammar School, Butler Rd. & English Colony Way, Penryn.
I installed landscaping, including the installation of netting and the placement of numerous plants to control erosion and beautifying a slope near the entrance to the school. Total people involved = 15, total hours = 160.

Rocklin Natural Wetland Preservation Area.
I built 15 Wood Duck nesting boxes and placed them near the beaver ponds and streams along the natural wetland preservation areas in Rocklin. Total people involved = 11, total hours = 142.

Excelsior Middle School, Roseville.
I built and installed 3 redwood planter boxes (8' x 4' x 2' high). I dug and installed a French drain and 33 yards of road base under all of it. Total people involved = 33, total hours = 151.

Granite Bay Montessori School, Roseville.
I cut a 215 foot path from the playground to the planter boxes at the back of the property. We then fit benderboard into the path and filled it with road base to create a heavy-duty access way that provides year-round access to the planter boxes. Total people involved = 33, total hours = 167.

Granite Bay High School.
I redid the sprinkler system and installed 3 concrete benches and also reinstalled the "Jeff Kniff Memorial" and laid down sod in the area around the trees and memorial. Total people involved = 7, total hours = 95.

The Sacramento Shriner's Children's Hospital, Marysville Blvd., Sacramento.
I built a 12 ft. x 18 ft. metal storage shed with 2 roll-up doors from an original design and built to specifications. The storage unit will store medical aid devices, such as eclectic wheelchairs and crutches. Total people involved = 16, total hours = 107.

Nature Trail, Oakhills School, Granite Bay.
I made green numbered signs for the posts along the nature trail. The numbers correspond to an item on the trail guide along with a paragraph that the teachers can tell their students about. I also cleared out brush cleaning up the trail, spread mulch and planted some plants. Total people involved = 47, total hours = 163.

Provide an outdoor classroom for meeting by installing 2 concrete pads and anchoring 3 commercial picnic tables. Concrete pads were 16' x 8' and 8' x 8'. Total people involved = 14, total hours = 209.

Oakmont High School Music Library, Roseville.
I reorganized over 3000 items of sheet music. I raised over $500.00 to cover the costs of 240 sheet music boxes to put the music into to keep them organized and protect them. All music was indexed on catalog cards so any music can be found. I also created a database program so the index card information can be entered at a later date so searching will be easier. Rocklin Cemetery, South Grove Rd. and Rocklin Rd.
Validate and update the American Legion maps with the names and locations of veteran's grave sites in the Rocklin Cemetery. With the map information I put together an Excel Spreadsheet which is the map so that the American Legion can update the maps in the future. Total people involved = 10, total hours = 203.

Placer County Children's Crisis Nursery, a project of the Child Abuse Prevention Council (see web site = http://www.childresources.org), Auburn, CA.
The new center was in need of many things for it's opening, so I organized a community drive in Loomis to collect new toys, games, books, and clothing. Approximate value of all items = $1000.00. I publicized the project in the local newspaper, created flyers, and sought the support from my troop. Total people involved = 9, total hours = 70.

Granite Bay High School, Granite Bay.
I installed a bench for track athletics supported by a steel frame imbedded into a 8' long by 4' wide concrete pad.. Another concrete pad was laid for a BBQ picnic area next to the bench and good for folding chairs to watch the events also. Total people involved = 11, total hours = 104.

LDS Humanitarian Center
I directed the construction of 150 "hygiene kits" that are sent to Salt Lake City Utah for charitable distribution.

H. Clarke Powers Elementary School, Loomis.
I built two solid maple podiums with a lacquer finish. 24" wide by 48" tall. They tilt back onto casters for easy transportation. Total people involved = 9, total hours = 69.

Granite Bay High School Emerald Brigade Band and Colorgard, Granite Bay.
I constructed two trophy shelves (only one shown), 40 feet long each. They were mounted to the side walls of the band room, to hold trophies and awards won by the band. 68 feet of shelving needed to display trophies earned in the last four years.Total people involved = 28, total hours = 128.

Fire Station #2, Rocklin.
Landscaping was assembled around the fire station sign. Irrigation was installed and plants added to the existing group. This was part of a major dedication to a fallen firefighter. Total people involved = 6, total hours = 43.

River Oak Center For Children, 4325 Auburn Blvd., Suite 300, Sacramento.
The under privileged children that go to this school now have new sand for their large play area, two new small toy cranes, and a huge tire put in for the playground. Total people involved = 20, total hours = 141.

East Colonial Parkway, Roseville.
I painted "No Dumping, Flows To Creek" signs next to 130 street curb drains. Total people involved = 21, total hours = 136.

Orangevalle Community Park, Hazel Ave.
I restored the fire damaged Public information Marquee by installing new trim boards and painting the whole thing. The missing bulletin board was replaced with a lockable glass covered bulletin board framed in oak. Total people involved = 22, total hours = 100.

California Waterfowl Association.
My team and I constructed 16 wood duck boxes to be placed at various locations throughout the Sacramento Valley. Total people involved = 9, total hours = 84.

The city of Lincoln.
I painted "No Dumping" signs on all the drains in the city in an effort to prevent people from dumping things in the gutter that will end up in our streams. I also install an underground irrigation system on two different islands in the middle of Joiner Parkway Drive in preparation for plantings to be installed later. Rush Park, Sunrise Recreation and Park District, 7801 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights.
We removed 6 trees from planter boxes in the parking lot. They were dead or dying from a lack of water supply. We then fixed the broken irrigation pipes, and planted the new hackberry trees providing a bark mulch. Total people involved = 26, total hours = 181.

Crestmont Neighborhood, Roseville, CA.
I organized a group to install smoke detectors in peoples homes in a chosen neighborhood. We visited 285 homes and installed 43 smoke detectors and replaced 46 batteries. We had many people tracking homes, talking to residents, and installing detectors. Total people involved = 26, total hours = 110.

I made a planter box area surrounded by a concrete curb encompassing an area 1'9" by 35'10". It was filled with pea gravel where 5 planter boxes that I made were placed. Total people involved = 20, total hours = 209.

Trinity Episcopal Church, 214 Figueroa St., Folsom
An entire sprinkler system was installed including valves, a time clock and drip irrigation. Over 10 man hours were used to cut through the tree roots of an old oak tree. The sprinkler system replaced the job of a woman too old to water the plants and the grass. Total people involved = 9, total hours = 136.

Sierra Gardens Elementary School.
Painted a mural of children playing on a playground. Six drawings were selected from drawings made by the whole student body. These 6 pictures were combined into an integrated drawing. I then took the pictures and made transparencies and sketched them on the wall from an overhead projector image. Blue and white hand prints were then added as an interesting border. Total people involved = 16 , total hours = 213 .

Roseville LDS Church, 211 Estates Dr.
I refurbished all of the wooden base boards and the 3 ft. high moldings. The building is 25,000 sq. ft. with 44 doors built in 1970. Total people involved = 26, total hours = 110.

Parker Whitney Elementary School.
We built 13 planter boxes: 5 boxes = 4'x8' and 8 boxes = 8'x8'x12' triangles. They are going to be used by the school science program. The wood was redwood 2" thick and 4x4 redwood support. Total people involved = 23, total hours = 169.

Mariposa Grammar School, 7029 Mariposa, Citrus Heights.
This is a picture of the front of the school after I finished my project. We planted the ground cover in the back and repainted the fence so that the paint did not peal off. Total people involved = 19, total hours = 177.

Penryn Park, Penryn Road, Penryn.
I built 15 Wood Duck nesting boxes. The boxes were made to Ca. Dept. of Fish and Game specifications to ensure accessibility for the ducks and refuse accessibility to natural predators. Total people involved = 13, total hours = 114.

I placed four concrete benches near the tennis courts where they were badly needed. I also painted the curbs red around the school to make it safer for student drivers. Total people involved = 18, total hours = 229.

Penryn Park at Boulder Creek Road., Penryn
I built three campsites. In each campsite we dug a fire pit and put rocks around a sunken metal container. We also painted about 25 picnic tables. Total people involved = 40, total hours = 142. - David R., Crew 120.
Tri-City baseball field at Spring View Johnson Park (off 5th St.), Rocklin
I planted 19 trees. They were already 6 ft. tall in 5 gal. containers. I also installed a buried irrigation system of bubblers to keep them alive. Now the back of the baseball diamond will have shade for the spectators and players. Total people involved = 38, total hours = 275.

Traylor Ranch Bird Sanctuary and Wildlife Preserve, Loomis.
I built an information podium for the visiting public to enable identifying species of wildlife that are in the area. Total people involved = 30, total hours = 144.

Monte Verde Park, El Don Drive.
I built a split rail fence surrounding the park. It was 340 feet long and added to the beauty of the park while defining the park from adjacent wild vegetation. Total people involved = 26, total hours = 101.

Thomas W. Coleman Elementary School, Orangevale.
I conceived of and built and lavishly painted a pair of heavy duty, child-height and kid safe cement reinforced lunch tables. Also, another set of tables were in disrepair so we refurbished and repainted them. Total people involved = 19, total hours = 107.

I removed dead plants that were located in several planting beds around the school front office. I then placed several new plants and shrubs in the same locations. Total people involved = 9, total hours = 95.

Arcadia Park, Loomis
I planted six 5gal redwood trees in the park to provide shade. Bark mulch was applied to each and a 6 foot tall fence with 3 poles was erected around each for protection from mowers, traffic and vandalism. Total people involved = 12, total hours = 72.

Dry Creek Elementary School, 2955 PFE Rd., Roseville.
I constructed and installed four picnic tables. I also planted four 15 gal. trees around the perimeter of the area. Total people involved = 15, total hours = 165.

Placer Co. SPCA, 150 Corporation Yard Rd., Roseville
I painted the holding rooms. I pruned trees and bushes and laid down weed fabric and gravel in the large dog run area to make it cleaner and deter weed growth. I also installed four commercial garden benches in the dog runs. Much of the materials were paid for by the proceeds of a car wash I organized before I started work. Loomis Town Park in Loomis off King Rd.
I constructed and installed bat condos to help keep the insect population down in the park and nearby community. These are necessary due to the destruction of their natural nesting areas. They were attached to trees about 15 feet high. Total people involved = 18, total hours = 137.

At Cottonwood Lake and Laurel Lake in Hidden Valley, Granite Bay.
I had Lincoln High School cut the bird houses using 3/4" pine. Then I supervised scouts building 35 bird houses. We then put up the bird houses high in the trees at the lakes. Total people involved = 15, total hours = 112.

The town of Loomis.
My painting crew and I cleaned and painted sixty fire hydrants. They were cleaned and the cap threads were lubricated. Then they were painted a bright yellow. Total people involved = 9, total hours = 90.

Cotton Wood Lake and Laurel Lake, Hidden Valley Nature Area, Granite Bay.
We planted 55 trees around these lakes. White Alder, and Fremont Cottonwood trees were used. Wire mesh protectors had to be installed to protect the young trees from pests. Total people involved = 16, total hours = 100.

Lincoln Feets of Play, Hwy. 193, Lincoln.
I removed 7 condemned McBean Park eucalyptus trees for the city. This entailed dropping the trees, mulching the branches, cutting up the trees and then splitting the wood. The firewood was then sold and the resulting money was donated to Feets of Play. Total people involved = 48, total hours = 495.

Merry Hill School, Sierra Gardens Rd., Roseville
Cleaned up a mess of old wood, bamboo stumps and weeds to eliminate rat and snake habitat near the creek in back of the property. Total people involved = 16, total hours = 90.

Traylor Ranch Bird Sanctuary and Nature Reserve, Loomis.
The finished 20 bluebird houses were mounted on posts driven into the ground. I used the NABS (North American Bluebird Society) base design. The houses could be opened from the side for easy cleaning and management. Total people involved = 12, total hours = 200.

Sterling Point hiking and equestrian trail head, Granite Bay.
I took out an old kiosk of the Sierra Foothills Audubon Society, and put in a larger and stronger kiosk. The kiosk has a display area 3' X 3", which leaves plenty of room for flyers and information. It was made oft of redwood and will last a long time. Total people involved = 26, total hours = 300.

W.T. Eich Middle School, Roseville.
I built a 61' decomposed granite pathway down to a special education class garden to ensure accessibility laws. I also surrounded the raised planting beds with decomposed granite to provide a clean mud free access for everybody. Total people involved = 26, total hours = 195.

Cirby Elementary School, 814 Darling Way, Roseville.
I sanded down 11 picnic tables and repainted them. I also repainted 200 feet of railing and 80 feet of benches. I also painted a wall mural with an anti-graffiti wax. Lastly, I redid 3 planter areas with a weed barrier, new bark, and a pathway for students. Total people involved = 29, total hours = 133.

Mariposa Elementary School, 7940 Mariposa Ave., Citrus Heights.
I built a 56 foot long rail fence with 8 posts. I also added a concrete path 9 feet long. Total people involved = 22, total hours = 122.

Mariposa Elementary School, 7940 Mariposa Ave., Citrus Heights.
The goal was to stop flooding by installing a drainage system and to prevent students from walking in the mud by creating a 58 foot concrete pathway. I also removed part of a fence for safe and easier access to the busses. Total people involved = 17, total hours = 168.

Cavitt Junior High School, 7200 Fuller Drive, Granite Bay.
I built a substantial 4'8" x 4'2" brick wall and installed a plaque that had been donated to the school. The plaque recognizes KIWANIS and their contribution of the park to the school. Total people involved = 15, total hours = 133.

W.T. Eich Middle School, Roseville.
The special education class had some planter boxes, but they needed an irrigation system. I installed the drip system for a group of planter boxes. Total people involved = 20, total hours = 95.

Sacramento Children's Receiving Home, Sacramento.
I constructed and donated 36 wooden toys. This required cutting out over 180 wood pieces, assembling the toys, sanding , and painting. The toys included two models of planes, boats, a car and a truck. Total people involved = 26, total hours = 138.

Rush Park, Citrus Heights.
I installed 2 benches overlooking 2 playgrounds between three large oak trees. We also planted 12 camphor trees that will provide shade for generations to come.

Maidu Elementary School, 1950 Johnson Ranch Dr.
I installed a 325 sq. ft. brick patio with a "bread basket pattern" at the school. The patio cleans up a muddy area and creates a very attractive environment. Total people involved = 18, total hours = 176.

Fairytale Town (next to Zoo), Sacramento.
This nonprofit organization needed much work and among other things I replaced a broken down fence 65 ft. long at the entrance. A new flag was also donated to replace an old one. Total people involved = 27, total hours = 197.

Mariposa Elementary School, Mariposa Ave., Citrus Heights.
I coordinated the construction and installation of six garden boxes. Teams dug trenches, put together sprinkler pipe, and constructed the boxes. The boxes will be used by the students to grow vegetables and other plants. Total people involved = 21, total hours = 110.

Dry Creek Elementary School, 2955 PFE Road, Dry Creek.
I refinished four picnic tables (2 of which are not shown here), laid the bark, and refinished the sign board. These are all located in a garden area maintained by the students. Total people involved = 25, total hours = 115.

Dry Creek Elementary School, 2955 P.F.E. Rd., Roseville.
I repainted and restored a 20' X 30' map of the US on the playground pavement. I also painted two walls for handball, and four 10' basketball hoops. I also planted four trees by the classrooms. I also painted curbs red in the parking lot and the edge of the stairs Total people involved = 23, total hours = 93.

City of Roseville, Dept. of Housing and Redevelopment.
The project included clearing trash, trees and debris from the front and back yards of a house. Also minor painting and construction was done to the inside of the house. Total people involved = 21, total hours = 232.

Skycrest Elementary School, Citrus Heights.
I installed six Wabash Valley "Spyder" Series metal tables imbedded in deep cement holes and installed a cement pad under and around each table. Total people involved = 28, total hours = 327.

Traylor Ranch Nature Reserve, Penryn.
I built and installed two kiosks like the one shown here, one for each parking lot of the reserve. It displays information about the plants and wildlife of the area, as well as safety and trail information. The kiosks were built with two sides for display. For durability, the upright supports rest on metal anchors rather than directly contacting the ground. Total people involved = 13, total hours = 215.

First Presbyterian Church, Roseville.
I dismantled the original deck that was around an old oak. I then took out all garbage from underneath the deck, which went down 4'6" from the ground surface. Then I built a new deck around the oak protecting it and providing a sitting area. Total people involved = 8, total hours = 122.

Valley Springs Presbyterian Church, Roseville.
I constructed a playground area in honor of Anna Elise Sisson. I filled the area with special ADA (American Disabilities Act) approved wood finger making the equipment wheelchair accessible. The Pediatric Center at Roseville Sutter Hospital.
My scout troop, church, and I made 48 quilts for the center. We received all the donations for the project by soliciting them from stores. After the materials were made into 48 quilts by a lot of work we delivered them to the hospital. Total people involved = 43, total hours = 153.

I gathered toys and clothes from the neighborhood communities of Granite Bay and Roseville, rented a U-Haul and packed it with the toys and clothes. Everything was then delivered to AMOR Ministries in Mexico. Total people involved = 16, total hours = 83.

Two sitting benches were built in my backyard. We painted the wood and drilled the holes in one day. The second day we cemented the benches into the ground. Total people involved = 10, total hours = 70.

I made a Nature Trail for the newly built school. This included fence posts, pruning, grading and cleanup. I also provided a Nature Trail Guide of things to see along the trail. Total people involved = 21, total hours = 114. - Stephan W., Troop 509.
Granite Bay High School, Granite Bay.
I built four planter boxes to be used as an herb garden. These boxes were put together off site and transported to the school. They were filled with dirt, and decomposed granite was spread around each box. Total people involved = 29, total hours = 169.

Mariposa Elementary School, 7940 Mariposa Ave., Citrus Heights.
We took down a 53 year old fence, then replaced it with a new fence. After we replaced it we painted it white. To build the new fence we put 4x4s between metal posts. To attach them to the posts we used angle iron and screws. The last step was painting it white the next week. . Total people involved = 19, total hours = 146.

I mounted special flood lights on the roof of the Administration Building, illuminating the flagpoles and flags. The lights now illuminate the flags and the parking lot. Total people involved = 12, total hours = 92.

I developed a trail behind the Community Center and set up a beginning sign "The Stu Hardy Trail - Johnson Springview Park". The trail is 1 1/4 mi. long and has eight markers with 4x4 posts that provide distance and directions. The trail will provide a marked trail to help people with their exercise by striving for longer workouts. Total people involved = 20, total hours = 134.

My project was to repaint and reapply the markings to the cement distance markers on the 1/4 mile track. The end result was easy to read. Marks identify the beginnings and end of races and where to place the hurdles. Total people involved = 12, total hours = 105.

Camp Far West and Lincoln wetlands along a slough.
Wood Duck nesting boxes (25) were constructed placed where the California Waterfowl Association is trying to attract and build up populations of Wood Ducks. The boxes were also filled with sawdust to make them more attractive for nesting.

Eureka Elementary School: 5477 Eureka Rd., Granite Bay.
My workers and I constructed this masonry drinking fountain in July of 1999. It rests on a 4" thick concrete pad, is constructed of cinder blocks, brick, mortar, and tile and two drinking spigots. A door was added so repairs/maintenance could easily be made. A 150' trench was dug and laid with 150' of PVC pipe to connect the fountain to the water source. Total people involved = 16, total hours = 212.

I designed a sign and installed it at the entrance to the community. I worked with the home owners of Lakeland to form a design and the Placer County Planning Department to get it approved. We landscaped the area with 20 ton of large river rocks. The sign was 13 feet long and 39 inches high. A professional constructed the sign in Auburn. Total people involved = 32, total hours = 150.

It is my goal to lay a drip irrigation system for a nature trail. I planted about 40 trees and shrubs and hooked up two irrigation control stations and valves. Wades Lake in Plumas County and Folsom Lake.
Department of Fish and Game and all those who fish in the lakes.
This is a picture of Wades Lake that is a 6 mi. hike in and the reason the Fish and Game had not surveyed it recently. A creel count (number of fish caught per hours of fishing) survey was conducted including a survey of the contents of the stomachs to determine what they were feeding on. There is no change in the appearance of the lake, but fish and Game now has the information needed to conduct their annual stocking. Total people involved = 13, total hours = 119.

I cleared away old sparse bark and replaced it with gravel. Then we put a drip system in some planter boxes to water a garden. Last, we waterproofed the planters and some old benches.
