  • Kyle B., Troop 52.
    Cornerstone Christian School, 2604 El Centro Rd, Sacramento.
        I built 4 shelving units (11' tall, 6' long, 3' wide) for the storage space.  One shelf is interchangeable to allow hanging costumes on the installed curtain rod.  Total people involved = 23, total hours = 214.

    Peace for Families Shelter, 408 Folsom Rd, Roseville.
        I built a 6' tall cedar fence over 100' long.  To pay for it I raised $600 for materials.  Total people involved = 28, total hours = 204.

 

  • Chad H., Team 292.
    SPCA of Placer Co., 150 Corp. Yard Road, Roseville.
        I made 150 cat scratching posts (17.5" tall with a 16" x 22" base).
    Total people involved = 28, total hours = 179. 

 

  • Josh H., Crew 292.
    Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento, 3555 Auburn Bvd., Sacramento.
        I collected donations of material for 150 blankets.  Blankets were then made and donated.  Total people involved = 40, total hours = 224.

    Placer Co. SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)
        I created a "Trail" 300' long to follow made up of painted paw prints from thier main facility to the "Gravel Run" & play pin.  The blue and white PAWS will lead customers instead of being lead by workers thereby saving them time.  I also handed out about 500 fliers to advertise SPCA.  Total people involved = 16, total hours = 129.

  • Matthew D., Troop 1.
    Saddle Pals Therapeutic Center, 7616 Telegraph Ave., Orangeville.
        I
    built 5 new saddle racks to replace their dilapidated ones.  These racks keep the saddles off the ground and protected.  They were 2' 8" tall and 2' wide.  They were made of cabinet grade plywood and painted them with Behr house paint for durability.  Total people involved = 7, total hours = 102.

    Blue Oaks Elementary School, Horncastle Blvd, Roseville.
        I made 2 picnic tables ( 7.5' long x 73" wide) from rough redwood.  I also raised the money for all the materials.  Total people involved = 10, total hours = 229. 

 

 

  • Brandon P., Troop 1830.
    St. Vincent De Paul, 141 Riverside Ave., Roseville.
        I painted 2 awnings (8' x 12' and 8' x 15') that hadn't been painted in 20 years.  I also obtained donations of 32 hat and scarf sets for the homeless in the winter.  Total people involved = 33, total hours = 95.

    First Presbyterian Church of Roseville, 515 Sunrise Av., Roseville.
        I refurbished one 15' x 10 ' and two 24' x 15' storage sheds by scrapping off old paint and applying 2 coats of primer and a finish coat.  I used 6 gal of paint for everything including the roof trim.  Total people involved = 19, total hours = 116.

  • Daniel H., Troop 1.
    Wookcreek Nature Center, 2551 Woodcreek Oaks Blvd., Roseville.
        The natureland marsh was infested with Water Hyacinth, an invasive plant.  I organized the work party to pull out the weed from over an acre to clear the water.  The materials taken out filled 2 dumpsters.  Total people involved = 102, total hours = 296.

 

  • Chris McM., Troop 121.
    Stoneridge School, 2501 Alexandra Dr., Roseville.
        I painted on the 3 acre playground 19 games like Pickle, Fore Square, Hopscotch, Bean Bag, For Square, multiuse circles and squares, numbers and letter grids, Around the World, and other basketball games.  One of the most notable parts of the project was the 500' "Number and Alphabet Track" seen in the picture.  The track included numbers 0-100 and the alphabet.  All work was done in a great assortment of colors, using 2 gallons or each color.  This will enhance the enjoyment of the playground by all the children.  Total people involved = 25, total hours = 304.

 

  • Jordan T., Troop 509.
    LDS Church, 2110 CA Cir., Rancho Cordova.
        I painted the backstop for the baseball field and the nearby light pole bases with 4 gallons of paint amounting to 425 square feet.  The chain link fence/cage for the backstop which had fallen away in many places was also repaired.  I also moved some heavy old 100 ft. long bleachers to a more convenient location behind the backstop.  Total people involved = 15, total hours = 67.

 

  • Kevin S., Crew 803.
    Woodcreek High School, 2551 Woodcreek Oaks Blvd.
        I refinished inside and out two "Uniform Cabinets" (8' x 4' x 6') for the band.  I also repaired one cabinet and a small uniform carrier.  Total people involved = 36, total hours = 150.

  • Clay D., Troop 121.
    Jesuit High School, 1200 Jacob Ln., Carmichael.
        I replaced the 4" x 12" Douglas Fir wood on 8 benches, and painted them (see examples).  Total people involved = 23, total hours = 120.

 

  • Rick E., Troop 409.
    Oak Hills School, 9233 Twinschools Dr., Granite Bay.
        I demolished and removed a rotten wood barrier surrounding a planting and replaced it with a cement curbing about 385 linear feet long and 5" high.  The result was a much safer and more permanent solution.  Total people involved = 40, total hours = 179. 

 

  • Palmer H., Team 816.
    Treasure Mountain Girls Camp, Sierraville, CA.
       I installed a new 34' flag pole with a golden ball top.      The pole also had a bronze cast plaque in memory of Jan Meinzer describing him and his importance to this camp.  This flagpole will give more purpose to the upper part of the camp and will help beautify as well as provide a place to hold ceremonies.  Total people involved = 10, total hours = 141. 

 

  • TJ P. , Troop 828.
    Roseville Public Cemetery, 421 Berry St., Roseville.
        I landscaped the entrance to cemetery.  I planted over 80 plants in 300 sq ft.  This included a 2 valve control system with the 350 feet of irrigation tubing, 200 drip emitters and 7 cu yds of bark to finish it up.  Total people involved = 20, total hours = 183.

  • Reese I., Troop 121.
    Maidu Interpretive Center, Roseville Maidu Park.
        I
    refurbished two of the main bridges (both 40' long by 6' wide) on the nature trail.  This involved repairing, sanding and painting.  We also refinished the benches on the trail.  Total people involved = 28, total hours = 180.

 

  •   Weston H., Troop 828.
    Morco Dog Park, Sierra Gardens Dr, Roseville.
        I built a 10' x 10' shade structure over an existing kiosk to help protect it from weather damage.  It covers the kiosk and features a commerative plaque that tells why the park is named after the police dog Marco, and gives a shady place for people to rest and visit.

  • Karsten G., Troop 1830.
    Wookcreek Nature Center, 2551 Wookcreek Oaks Blvd., Roseville
        I renovated 30 old trail signposts and sanded down all the rust and applied anti-rust paint.  I also created a 4' x 3' sign on the side of a building using 21 letters (6" high) which we made.  Total people involved = 30, total hours = 103.

 

  • Benjamin M., Troop 1830.
    Palms Assisted Living Facility, 100 Sterling Ct., Roseville.
        I built a
    2-part wheelchair accessible potting and planting bench/station.  The station is 6' long and the bench is 8' long.  I also built 3 raised planter boxes about 8' long.  This gives the elderly access to planting and growing access to flowers and vegetables.

  • John J., Troop 1.
    Roseville Lion's Club, 107 Sutter Ave., Roseville.
        I painted the interior of the 61' square building excluding the kitchen with 2 coats of paint.  This included the ceiling, cloosets and bathrooms, 2 doors, two pillars and the exterior of the back door.  I also cleaned the lights, replaced light bulbs and cleaned air vents.  Then I cleaned the parking lot and grounds.  Total people involved = 16, total hours = 158. 

 

  • David M., Troop 52.
    Sunrise Community Church, Roseville.
        The storage shed needed a complete repair and finishing job (see photos).  Tore off entire front wall and roof of 8' x 12' shed and replaced them.  Another 32 sq ft were replaced in the back as well.  On the left side a window was removed and the hole covered.  All together about 1/2 the shed was replaced and about a gallon of paint applied.  Total people involved = 15, total hours = 132. 

 

  • Grant M., Troop 52.
    Sunrise Community Church, Roseville.
        I renovated a 20' x 16' shed by painting it (using 5 gallons) and put new shingles on the roof using 16 packages of shingles, 2 rolls of felt and 2 boxes of nails.  Total people involved = 13, total hours = 133. 

 

  • Ben B., Troop 121
    Eureka Elementary School, 5477 Eureka Rd., Granite Bay.
        I made (from 2" x 12" boards) and installed four 5' x 20' x 2' planter boxes and filled each box with 7.5 yds of planting mix.  Total people involved = 34, total hours = 205.

 

  • Tyler O., Crew 816.
    Kaseberg Elementary School, 1040 Main St., Roseville.
        I removed an old bench and replaced it with a much larger new bench about 32' long.  I also prepared plywood sections for mounting and then gave them to classrooms to add artwork to be placed as a 45' long mural on the wall with the bench in the middle of them.  Total people involved = 16, total hours = 180. 

 

  •  Bryon S., Troop 818.
    Family Resource Center, 124 Main St. Roseville, & WEAVE, 1900 K St., Sacramento.
        I built a 4' x 4' bookcase and filled it with part of the 450 books I was able to get donated from the community.  I also supervised a group to make 85 blankets (a third were 4.5' x 3' and the rest were 3' x 3').  Total people involved = 44, total hours = 135.

  • Colin B., Troop 1.
    Crestmont Elementary School, 1501 Sheridan Ave., Roseville.
        In this picture are shown small parts each of the following jobs.
    We painted 6 rails (each 15 to 25 feet long), the main gate and the large planters (18' x 22').  I spread out 2 yds of decomposed granite around the walkways and I also beautified the 2 main planters.  I planted 18 plants plus 2 Crape Myrtle trees.  We also laid down 3 yds of bark on top of the dirt and installed drip irrigation lines.  Total people involved = 35, total hours = 253. 

 

  • Clayton Z., Crew 30.
    LDS Church, Estates Drive, Roseville.
        I restored the woodwork by washing and polishing it.  This included the baseboards door jams, and wall chair bumpers in over 30 rooms and over 60 large benches.  Total people involved = 30, total hours = 80.

 

  • Jeff B., Troop 121.
    Granite Bay High School, 1 Grizzly Way, Granite Bay.
    The band equipment shed was a disaster area.  We
    installed shelves which wrapped around the inside of the shed with enough space in the middle for the band golf cart to park. Total people involved = 17, total hours = 87.

 

  • Christopher P., Troop 828.
    St. Rose Elementary School, 615 Vine Ave.
        $500 was raised with a car wash to buy supplies.  We bought books for donating to the classes (labels glued inside) and each class received
    40 Whisper Phones which we made with 3/4" PVC.  I made a total of 300 phones.  By using the "Whisper Phone " students are able to hear what they say directly back to their own ears.  Total people involved = 41, total hours = 136.

Eagle Board of Review December 16, 2007

 

  • Brandon S., Troop 11.
    California Army National Guard Armory on 58th St., Sacramento.
        I constructed an 8' X 8' redwood sign for the entrance to the Armory.  The lettering was engraved and painted yellow.  The names of the units stationed there will hang below on planks with engraved lettering.  There had been no sign and therefore was previously harder to find. 
    Total people involved = 20, total hours = 178.

 

  • Mark B., Troop 30.
    4 High Schools (Roseville, Oakmont, Granite Bay and Woodcreek).
        I installed 914 "Do Not Dump - Drains to Creek" placards next to each drain on each campus.  I also created a film presentation on a DVD about the project and explaining why it was necessary and how important it is to keep our creeks clean.  This will help the schools promote keep the creeks clean movement.  Total people involved = 11, total hours = 158. 

 

  • Michael F., Team 863.
    Roseville City.
        I installed 300 "Do Not Dump - Drains to Creek" placards next to each drain in the neighborhoods bounded by Woodcreek Oaks Blvd, Junction Blvd, Pleasant Grove and Washington Blvd.  Total people involved = 21, total hours = 134. 

 

Eagle Board of Review November 11, 2007

 

  • James P., Troop 11.
    Cirby State Preschool, 814 Darling Way, Roseville.
        I installed an irrigation system for 1600 sq ft of lawn used by preschool children.  It involved 520' of pipe and 36 sprinkler heads plus all the trenching to get the pipes underground.  Total people involved = 34, total hours = 223.

 

  • Colin S. , Troop 121.
    Olympus Junior High School, 2625 La Croix, Roseville.
        I did many things pictured here.  I built new shelves (7' and 4' long) for music storage.  I also constructed a podium designed with lockable cabinets for a laptop and other equipment.  We restructured the sound cabinets and outfitted it to store stuff more efficiently.  Uniform cabinets were repaired and redesigned to fit everything.  We also painted the front of the band room a forest green to match the school colors.  Total people involved = 39, total hours = 201.

 

  • Michael T., Troop 121.
    Lake View Hills Club House and Hidden Valley Club House, Granite Bay.
        I constructed 10 picnic tables (8' long) from pressure treated douglas fir and stained them with a protective finish. 
    Total people involved = 17, total hours = 190.

 

  • Jeffrey W., Troop 121.
    Youth for Christ Ministries, 8845 Carriage Dr., Granite Bay.
        I built a "Heartland" kit storage shed and painted it so materials would not have to be stored in the meeting area.  I also built  5 outside picnic tables for outside events, washed down the driveway, and sprayed the weeds.  Total people involved = 11, total hours = 87.

    Woodcreek Nature Center, 2005 Hilltop Cir., Roseville.
    I held car washes to raise the money for 2 metal benches ($958.89) and concrete and other supplies needed to install them in the park for visitors.  Total people involved = 46, total hours = 242.

  • Sean S., Crew 30.
    Spenceville Wildlife Recreation Area, Wheatland, CA.  
        I removed old barbed wire from the trail to the falls.  The wire was partially buried and wrapped around trees and damaging them.  A jeep had to be used to pull the wire out then piled near the road for removal along with the trash and trash removed.  Total people involved = 17, total hours = 135.

 

  • Paul J., Troop 48.
    Cavitt Junior High School, 7200 Fuller Dr., Granite Bay.
        I
    repaired the trail by filling a 1' deep trench made by water runoff (see one example).  A drain and underground pipes were also installed to prevent this from happening again.  Two truckloads of decomposed granite were required and the area had to be leveled to be a useful trail again.  Weeds and brush was also cleared.  Total people involved = 21, total hours = 110  

 

  • Darren K., Troop 121.
    Cavitt Junior Hight School, 7200 Fuller Dr., Granite Bay.
      I reorganized and renovated the very messy and disorganized band room.  Two "Trophy shelves" 10' long were built on the back wall so awards could be displayed.  Old drama equipment was moved out and suitable items (3 truckloads) were given to Goodwill.  Storage shelving was installed and the old drama room was converted into a sheet music storage room.  I built clothing racks for choir dresses and band vests and tripled the hanging space.  I set up a parent volunteer desk in the director's office.  Instrument Storage cabinets were redesigned and shelves fixed in place to accommodate specific instruments and now the doors close.  Total people involved = 36, total hours = 178.  

 

  • George P., Troop 331.
    Forest Lake Christian School, 12515 Combie Rd., Auburn.
        I installed new playground equipment, a large play rock, padded the area with 10 cubic yards of wood chips and surrounded the area with 20 railroad ties for a border.  Total people involved = 26, total hours = 126.  

 

 

  • Richard B., Troop 828.
    Heritage Oak Elementary School, 2271 American Dr., Roseville.
        I painted a 30' wide map of the US on blacktop near the playground.  I also painted 4 life life size whales (Orca, Sperm, Narwhal, Walrus Whale), the largest a sperm whale was 85' long.  I also made informational booklets about the 4 different whales to help the school with their new aquatic science curriculum.  Total people involved = 28, total hours = 263.

  • Alex A., Troop 1.
    Soc. for the Prevention of Animals (SPCA), 150 Corp. Yard, Roseville.
        I made
    101 cat scratching posts.  Each post was 18" high mounted on a triangular base and covered with carpet.  Total people involved = 15, total hours = 149.

 

  • Alec B., Troop 1.
    City of Roseville, 105 Sutter St., Roseville.
        I renovated a building for the city by replacing 55' of rotted timbers, replacing gutters (45'), and painting the outside with 35 gal of paint.  I also added plants and mulch to the areas between the sidewalks and the building.  Total people involved = 21, total hours = 204.

 

  • John D. , Troop 1.
    Sacramento Senior Safehouse, 3420 E. Country Club Lane, Sacramento.
        I designed and built
    two 4' x 4' tables on wheels that wheelchairs could get close to so disabled people could participate.  The tables each contained 16 (1' x 1') squares filled with dirt for planting by the seniors.  The wood was finished then further protected by plastic liners.  His project was written up with pictures in "Volunteers of America, Greater Sacramento & Northern Nevada, July 2007.  Total people involved = 3, total hours = 108.

 

  • Garrison L., Troop 52.
    Greenhills Elementary School.
        I managed the creation and design of activity pages to go along with a miniature nature trail.  We also cleaned up the trail, and planted poppies.  There were 10 pages for 4 grade levels for a total of 40 pages.  Each page had grade-specific content, including artwork, facts about the plant and activities like the
    3 samples here for the Coast Redwood.  Total people involved = 17, total hours = 120. 

 

  • James M., Troop 121.
    Ronald L. Feist Park, 9180 Twin Schools Rd., Granite Bay.
      I
    planted 15 1-gal. trees, installed two kiosks, and installed an irrigation system.  The picture exemplifies the beauty and pristine nature of the surrounding park.  The trees in the foreground not only add aesthetic appeal to the area, but also provide shade in an area otherwise devoid of shade.  The kiosks, in addition to being aesthetically pleasing, provide space to post messages about park events.  The installed irrigation system keeps it all looking good.  Total people involved = 28, total hours = 274.

 

  • Dean S., Troop 803.
    Ronald McDonald House, 2555 49th St., Sacramento.
        I
    planted two patio trees, 12 perennials and some donated geraniums all in a 10' x 30' area in front of the facility.  The left over geraniums were planted in the parking area.  I also cleaned two of the housing units.  Total people involved = 45, total hours = 308.

 

 

  • Taylor V., Troop 863. 
    LDS Church, Tatumba Branch, Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
        I made
    care packages (23 girls, 25 boys) by creating 250 "Easter Eggs" with suggested donations.  At church people took the eggs and later donated what was on the "Egg".   Extra money collected bought food which was also distributed (240 lbs rice, 160 lbs beans, 20 lbs of lard).  All materials were delivered to Honduras and handed out to each family by myself.  Total people involved = 40, total hours = 275.

 

  • James V., Troop 863. 
    Hospital Esquela, Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
        I collected donations, did a garage sale and created 35 care packages.  Each package included a fleece blanket, a coloring book, crayons, pencils, bubbles, silly putty and a soccer ball or doll depending on gender.  All materials were delivered to Honduras and handed out to each patient by myself.  Total people involved = 50, total hours = 322.

  • Daniel B., Troop 1.
    Adelante Hight School, 350 Atlantic St., Roseville.
        I cleared out the invasive pest "Tree of Heaven" from the area and created 18 stations with an Information Post which identified which station was described in a pamphlet prepared for the area.  Total people involved = 26, total hours = 149.
     

 

  • Alex E., Troop 11.
    Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento and Buljan Intermediate School.
        I and my team made 
    20 ukuleles and donated 10 of them to the Children's home and the other 10 went to a music appreciation class at Buljan Intermediate School where they were made in the shop.  Total people involved = 25, total hours = 200. 

 

  • Eric F., Troop 11.
    Griffith Quarry (Taylor Rd. & Rock Springs Rd.), Penryn.
        I made and installed
    6 trail-map signs in the quarry.  As seen here, each map was housed in a metal, waterproofed frame, and attached to 4" steel poles cemented in the ground.  Total people involved = 13, total hours = 218. 

 

 

  • Daniel M., Troop 52.
    Trinity Christian School, Madison & Hillsdale W. of I80.
        I built an
    8' x 12' wooden shed from scratch and original plans to fit the available space.  Preparation included a concrete foundation.  It was weather treated and painted to preserve the music equipment stored inside.    Total people involved = 15, total hours = 344.

 

 

  • Wilson L., Team 818.
    Ronald L. Feist Park, 9180 Twin Schools Rd., Granite Bay.
        I beautified this 18.4 acre park by laying 6000 feet of irrigation pipe in the area surrounding the tennis courts.  We turned this large area from dirt to a well irrigated landscaped green area.  I also planted over 2000 plants and laid 200 yards of bark around the plants.  Total people involved = 27, total hours = 197. 

 

  • Cameron P., Troop 828.
    UC Davis Cancer Center, 4501 X St., Sacramento & Sutter Memorial Hospital, Sacramento.
        I build 
    32 foot stools from birch wood.  20 went to Sutter Memorial Hospital's Special Care Nursery, while 12 were donated to the UC Davis Cancer Center.  They were stained and finished with polyethylene so they can be washed and kept clean.  Total people involved = 44, total hours = 412.

  • Edward K., Troop 121.
    Roseville Family Resource Center and Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
        I collected 2050 books.  Books were sorted with adult books sold to buy more children/teen books.  These sorted books were then donated to the two centers.  Roseville Medical Center also needed a place to store the books so I built two 3' x 3' bookshelves and filled them with books.  Total people involved = 14, total hours = 137.

 

  • Jeff S., Troop 121.
    Beal's Point Campground, Folsom Lake State Park.
        I
    replaced 10 wooden fence beams and some posts and painted them and the old beams brown to match the rest of the barrier.  This barrier prevents people from walking in the area where invasive plant removal was to be done.  Then after the Bull Thistle germinated we removed it from selected areas.  We filled 17 bags of 20+ lbs. each of this trash.  We then identified by GPS the areas cleared as an "invasive-plant free area" for the State Parks Department.  Total people involved = 35, total hours = 115.

    Bayside Church, 8211 Sierra College Blvd., Granite Bay
        I collected 250 sleeping bags and blankets to be distributed by the church's outreach program to homeless people in Sacramento.  Total people involved = 13, total hours = 172.

 

  • Evan P., Team 816.
    Kaseberg Elementary School, 1040 Main Street, Roseville.
        I built
    four planter-benches (5' long by 2' wide).  I also weeded the flower beds that were overgrown with weeds.  Total people involved = 41, total hours = 125.

 

  • Kyle P., Team 816.
    Traylor Ranch Nature Reserve, 1050 English Colony Way, Loomis.
        I built a
    redwood structure (97" tall by 51" deep & 70" wide) on a cement pad around a portable toilet to help blend the toilet better with the natural surroundings.  I also installed the tie post for horses while the riders are busy.  Total people involved = 13, total hours = 180.

 

  • Trent M., Troop 1820.
    Roseville High School, Roseville.
        The boxes cheerleaders stand on during football games were old and not safe.  I built 20 boxes (4' x 4' x 2.5' tall) and each weighed about 100 lbs., so they were sturdy.  We also painted them and added painted Tiger Paw Prints on them for decoration.  Total people involved = 62, total hours = 114.

  • Ashton T., Crew 30.
    Diamond Creek Elementary School, Roseville.
        I cleaned and painted 14 room doors.  I also cleaned up 9 weedy planter beds and installed sprinklers in all of them so they will continue to look good.  I also painted curbing at strategic places to create safety zones.

    City of Roseville Green Space and creek system.
        I coordinated a Creek Week clean up project at 14 creeks in Roseville to beautify these areas.  I recruited 47 site leaders, average 4 at each site, prepared packets for them and held a training meeting.  Through advertisements we got 360 clean up volunteers.  They cleaned up over 100 bags of trash plus the city of Roseville hauled away large items that were found.  Total people involved = 408, total hours = 1538.

    Cavitt Junior High School, 7200 Fuller Rd., Granite Bay.
        I
    improved the nature trail by removing over 3 cu yds of overgrown plant life.  I also repaired the nine outdoor theater benches.  I also repaired 15 trail markers and the trail sign.  Total people involved = 18, total hours = 138.

 

  • Kyle A., Troop 121.
    Granite Bay High School, 1 Grizzly Way, Granite Bay.
        The boys' basketball team needed a separate section of a shed, so I built a
    divider and installed a door to give them access to that 8' x 12.5' section.  Three shelves were installed so they can organize their equipment.  I finished it off by painting the door and trim green and black (school colors).  Total people involved = 20, total hours = 86.

    Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 6365 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay.
        We removed weeds from a 40' x 6' section and laid a cement foundation for a 3' tall cinderblock retaining wall.  We laid down a weed barrier and covered the entire area with 60 bags of bark or 3/4" crushed rock.  Drip system was installed and junipers and azaleas planted.  We also sanded 4 sets of benches (25' x 6'), and refinished them.  Total people involved = 25, total hours = 210.

        I installed 320 labels next to street water drains in Roseville with stainless steel circular plates stating "
    Do not dump, flows to creek".  Total people involved = 31, total hours = 174.

 

  • Chris H. , Troop 509.
    Maidu Interpretive Center, 1960 Johnson Ranch Dr., Roseville.
        I built a life size tule hut in the way it was built by natives.  Rick Adams (a Maidu Indian) advised me and verified it's authentic construction.  This example of hut construction is used for tours and teaching school children and adults a little about how the Maidu indians lived.  It is made of a willow branch frame with tule reeds layered to give the protection.  Total people involved = 13, total hours = 105.

    Roseville streets and its creeks and water quality.
        I installed
    324 stainless steel labels on unmarked storm drains declaring "NO DUMPING * DRAINS TO CREEK".  The area included Lincoln St. west to Americana: Main/Baseline north to Junction Blvd. approximately 1 square mile.  Total people involved = ?, total hours = 168.

 

  • Christopher R. , Troop 52.
    Warehouse Christian Ministries, 10020 Foothills Blvd., Roseville.
        The 13 planter beds in the parking lot (= 2835 sq ft) had broken watering systems.  I fixed the major breaks. Then I got about $200 worth of plants (18 bushes & 7 flats (60 plants each) of ground cover donated by Home Depot.  These were planted and I spread 5 cubic yds of bark. 
    This is a sample of the results.  Total people involved = 52, total hours = 219.

    Roseville residents near 1405 Dana Ct.
        I passed out 600 fliers in a 7 block area announcing a free "Electronic Equipment E-cycling Event".  The following Saturday we picked up over 12,000 lbs of computers, monitors, printers, TVs, fax machines, stereo equipment, copiers, radios and keyboards.  Total people involved = 28, total hours = 148.

    Vencil Brown Elementary School.
        I accomplished several different tasks -
    pictures of only a couple: (1) moving back, weeding, water-sealing 3 picnic tables; (2) repainting the map of the US; (3) repainting classroom numbers; (4) repainting "bear paws" on 75' of pavement; (5) repainting 150' of hand rails; (6) repainted 4 "chalk squares"; (7) repainting all campus door "safety zones"; (8) moved 2 tons of bark; (9) weeded 4 planter boxes; (10) repainted 20 classroom numbers.  Total people involved = 59, total hours = 243.

    Coyote Ridge Elementary School, 1751 Morningstar Dr., Roseville.
        I painted a World Map (25' x 35') and a US Map (26' x 40').  Many colors used - take a look at the world map.  Proper preparation of a power wash was done and "Traffic Paint" was used to make the images very durable.  Total people involved = 24, total hours = 320.

 

  • Jason L., Troop 121.
    Granite Bay High School, #1 Grizzley Way, Granite Bay.
        I remodeled the old locker rooms at the pool along with reorganizing the storage of the swimming and water polo equipment.  I built a "raised deck" style flooring for both rooms along with hanging privacy curtains.  In the girl's locker room we hung cabinets with hooks on the adjacent wall and moved the equipment across the deck.  Total people involved = 23, total hours = 121.

    Shadow Ridge Community Church, 5635 Douglas Blvd, Granite Bay.
        I cleaned, prepared and painted one of the children's classroom buildings to match the main buildings and look nice.  It only took 15 gallons of paint just for the walls and that didn't include the trim! Total people involved = 14, total hours = 125.

    Woodcreek High School Nature Center
        I built 8 Wood Duck nest boxes and installed them in trees in the nature center grounds.  Wood chips were placed in the boxes to help with insulation.  I also built four shelves into a storage shed to help organize equipment and keep it off the floor.  Total people involved = 33, total hours = 156.

    Neighborhoods surrounding Oakmont High School.
        I installed about 300 street curb drain markers (stainless steel and very attractive).  These markers warn about illegal materials that can't be washed down the gutters.  The area was bounded by Orlando Ave. (next to Hwy 80), Cirby and Sheridan Ave which is east of Oakmont.  Installation of these markers involves drilling holes in the sidewalk and gluing and fastening the markers down.  Total people involved = 30, total hours = 186.

    Nature Center, Woodcreek High School
        I refurbished four Eagle Projects (see one example) that needed repairs at the nature center.  Also six gardens and several paths (200 yds long) that needed work.  We replanted native plants, put down ground cover & bark on each 200 sq ft area garden.  We also fixed the sprinklers and drip lines.  Total people involved = 21, total hours = 170.

        I built 3 shade structures for growing plants.  This will assist science teachers in their botany lessons.  Each structure is 8' high, 8' wide and 8' long, requiring over 199 linear feet of wood for each one.  Total people involved = 10, total hours = 115.

    Dry Creek Elementary School, 2955 PFE Road, Roseville.
        I built
    8 redwood benches (12' long) anchored in cement for classroom instruction in the school garden.  All wood was also stained and sealed against the weather.  Total people involved = 28, total hours = 148.

        I built a

    Ananda Church, Anada Lane, Rancho Cordova.
        I built a
    storage shed (8' X 8') to store spring furniture and swimming pool toys & other stuff.  I also painted it. Total people involved = 14, total hours = 199.

    Negro Bar, American River Parkway Foundation, Sacramento.
        I organized scuba divers to clean trash off the river bottom.  An inflatable motorized raft carried divers.  15 Divers swept the river bottom in a line and bringing up trash when found. 
    Large pieces of scrap metal among other pieces made up over 100 pounds of trash recovered making the area safer and more attractive.  Total people involved = 21, total hours = 130.

 

  • Crawford F., Team 818.
    Oak Hills Elementary School, 9233 Twin Schools Rd., Granite Bay.
        I cleaned up the
    nature trail and removed non-native plants.  Then I laid down a weed resistant cloth that was six feet wide and 300 feet long.  Then I covered that with 3" of decomposed granite (total of 40 yds).  I also refinished the entrance sign to like new. Total people involved = 30, total hours = 102.

        I build 25 picnic tables out of 2,500 linear feet of Douglas fir and sealed them with Thompson's Sealer.  I also had to raise over $1000 with a car wash for the project.  Total people involved = 23, total hours = 217.

        I

        I removed the old tattered bridge and replaced it with a

    North Sacramento School District, 700 Southgate Rd., Sacramento.
        Two parts. (1) I collected over
    375 pieces of sports equipment for all schools in the district.  (2) I improved the landscaping by trimming over 100 shrubs near the building and near windows.  I also raked, weeded and generally cleaned up for the "first day of school".  Total people involved = 29, total hours = 231.

        We demolished the old, crooked, single-fauceted drinking fountain on the sports field.  Then we built an
    all new three-fauceted drinking fountain with a new concrete slab and a wooden cabinet.   Total people involved = 15, total hours = 141.

    Citrus Heights Pony Baseball League, Valley Christian HS, 301 Whyte Ave.
        We made a 1/2 acre of jungle into a leveled pitching area with
    official pitching bullpen with a base of raw brick underground layer for stability.  I also rebuilt the main pitching mound with a stable brick underpad.  Total people involved = 47, total hours = 257.

    Champion Oaks development (off S. Cirby Way), Roseville.
        Painted signs using stencils with a fish logo on curbs near drains "DUMP NO WASTE, DRAINS TO STREAM".  Total people involved = 12, total hours = 120.

    Feist Park, Twin Schools Rd., Granite Bay.
        I landscaped a 4,000 sq ft area.  I added 1,600 ft of drip irrigation hose connected to 15 manifolds to water the plants.  I planted 11 trees, 54 shrubs and 331 plants.  I added 12 concrete pebble stepping stones to a gate for access.  74 cu yd of bark was then used for mulch.  Total people involved = 57, total hours = 166.

        The school's nature trail is close to Dry Creek. I cleared the trail of brush that was crowding it out and weeds that hid the trail.  I also made a redwood kiosk that displays information about the trail, the creek and the surrounding area.  Total people involved = 20, total hours = 127.

    Orfinatoria de Josephina, Juaraz Mexico.
        We collected
    1,718 pairs of socks and underwear for 60 orphans.  I then visited the orphanage and delivered the gifts and spent a day there visiting the children.  Total people involved = 33, total hours = 181.

    Somerford Place Alzheimer's Assisted Living Center, 110 Serrling Place,  Roseville.
        I repainted the walls around the patio (82 ft. by 10 ft.) and a recently built garden shed (12 ft. x 8ft x 7 ft.).  I also built
    10 redwood planter boxes on rollers and planted bulbs along with cover flowers in them.  Total people involved = 16, total hours = 145.

    Folsom City Zoo, Folsom.
        I built a 58 foot long
    fence and a gate around part of a building that held animals.  1840 lbs of cement was used in the fence post holes.  140 feet of rails were put on the posts and everything painted white with 2 gallons of paint.  Total people involved = 16, total hours = 144.

    Wookcreek High School Nature Center, 2551 Wookcreek Oaks Blvd., Roseville.
        I cleared an area of weeds and placed 14 previously built planter boxes in the area and installed a central water manifold and water sources in each box for future connections.  The boxes had been built by the HS wood shop out of composit wood.  Total people involved = 33, total hours = 125.

    Granite Bay Community youth Sports Teams, Corner of Douglas and Barton.
        Landscaping along a berm that wraps around the park hundreds of trees and bushes were planted and bark was spread for ground cover along a 300 foot berm.  The berm provides vegetation for nearby animals and prevents land slides onto the baseball diamonds.  The work encompassed about an acre.  Total people involved = 41, total hours = 124.

    Roseville Cemetery, 421 Berry St., Roseville.
        I cleaned (scrubbed with sponges, soap and water) 5006 headstones.  Some were also cleared of weeds that had overgrown them.  Total people involved = 35, total hours = 118.

        I re-striped the parking spaces

    St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 309 Montrose Dr., Folsom.
        I installed 4 benches on the field. The benches were made of solid steel posts with brackets that were made by hand. The posts were cleaned, polished and painted before installation. The wood was painted a majestic royal blue to match the trim of the building and the school colors. If the wood decays it can be easily replaced. Total people involved = 16, total hours = 122.

    The Adventure Club, 1200 Ridgecrest Way, Roseville.
        I
    landscaped a 1200 sq. ft. area. This included 50 plants planted, an Arizona flagstone walk path 110 ft. long, bark mulch over the whole area, and two benches were installed. There is a dry stream river bed that is 100 ft. long and decomposed granite layered path around vegetable beds. Drip irrigation was installed in the vegetable beds and throughout the whole area for the new plants. Total people involved = 32, total hours = 270.

        I built walls and added 44 linear feet of painted shelves in the outdoor shed for the Performing Arts Department. I also enhanced the band uniform racks to make them more accessible. Total people involved = 22, total hours = 232.

    Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 4450 Granite Dr., Rocklin
        I Installed the ground work for an amphitheater with a stage and 13 long benches surrounding the front of the stage. Since the total project can't be done in the time needed for this project I'm only clearing the area, digging the holes and installing the bench and stage supports - all leveled and ready for the rest of it. . I expect to later come back and finish the project as a troop project that may take at least another 150 hours or work. Total people involved = 22, total hours = 232.

    Auburn Family Resource Center and Sacramento Child Abuse Prevention Council.
        I collected
    25 boxes full of clothing and jackets with a focus on middle school and high school sizes. The storage closets also had to be improved with hanging shelves to support the sorted clothes. Total people involved = 60, total hours = 130.
  • Hunter L., Troop 818.
    Greenhills Elementary School, 8200 Greenhills Way, Granite Bay.
        Third grade added a new music program and needed storage space for the instruments. I converted a storage closet into a good storage place by adding
    156 square feet of shelving using 54 2x4s and about 12 pounds of screws. The shelves were partially built and painted so they could be installed in a very limited time period available that wouldn't interfere with school. Total people involved = 27, total hours = 132.
  • Alex Z., Troop 818.
    Woodcreek High School, 2551 Woodcreek Oaks Blvd., Roseville.
        I built and installed
    six benches for the Nature Center. The benches are each 24 feet long with 4 pipe legs cemented into the ground. The bench material is of prefabricated wood so they will last a long time. Benches are in an amphitheater arrangement. 300 lbs. of gravel were used and we mixed and poured over 1008 lbs. of cement. Total people involved = 19, total hours = 152.

        We removed the completely packed area of boxes and misc. stuff. We organized everything and added 120 sq. ft. of shelving (4 large shelves for storage) and 616 sq. ft. of flooring over exposed girders. Now it is accessible, safe and usable. Total people involved = 14, total hours = 169.

  • David P., Troop 52.
    Alternatives Pregnancy Resources Center, 2628 El Camino Ave., Sacramento.
        The center was in need of a huge
    paint job on inside walls amounting to 4,000 sq. ft.. The work also had to be planned around the center's work schedule to avoid disrupting their work. This saved the center thousands of dollars without any costs to them because all materials were donated by local businesses. Total people involved = 14, total hours = 169.

  • Ted D., Troop 121.
    Ron Feist Park, Granite Bay.
        A needed path was already defined with bender board, but needed to be filled with decomposed granite. We filled the forms, packed it and smoothed it out to provide a path and picnic table area. The
    path was 6" deep, 4' wide and about 300 feet long.

  • Eric C., Troop 121.
    Lutheran Church of the Resurrections, 6365 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay.
        The outdoor patio areas were cement squares separated by degrading and missing redwood spacers. I
    replaced about 2,000 linear feet of 2" x 4" (planed to fit) redwood spacers which improved the appearance and safety of the walking space. Total people involved = 24, total hours = 137.

  • Talor M., Team 292.
    Ron Feist Park, (Elmhurst & Twin Schools Rd) Granite Bay.
        I built
    13 planter rings (8 & 10 ft diameter) for trees to be planted into. Keystone blocks were used with capstones epoxied on the top of the ring. Filler dirt was added to raise the level of the dirt and sink holes dug and filled with gravel for deep irrigation of the trees to prevent future root damage. Two irrigation sources were also installed in each ring to allow adequate watering. Total people involved = 23, total hours = 152.

    Folsom City Zoo, 403 Stafford St., Folsom.
        I
    improved the landscaping by adding over 40 new plants and spreading 3 yds. of bark over the entire area. I also added 17 paving stones and a new hose attachment and hose storage unit. Total people involved = 27, total hours = 113.

    Roseville Parks & Recreation property, corner of Early and Briggs near Blue Oaks School.
        I planted 125 trees (Blue Oaks). The trees are protected by plastic tubing around the trees. The goal is 5 years from now when there will be a small Blue Oak forest in the park. Total people involved = 45, total hours = 280.

  • Chris L. Troop 331.
    Maidu Interpretive Center, 1960 Johnson Ranch Dr., Roseville.
        I made a
    Maidu hut out of native materials next to the visitor center as a demonstration of Indian culture and how they lived. The hut is 5.5 feet high and 8 feet in diameter. Materials used for the hut were willow branches for the frame and Tule reeds for the walls and insulation.
    Total people involved = 41, total hours = 360.

  • Chris H., Troop 331.
    Cornerstone Community Church, 4495 Granite Drive, Rocklin.
        I changed a uninteresting planter into a
    friendship garden with a gravel path leading to three stone benches. The area around the area was replanted with 15 new plants so flowers will add to the welcoming feel.

  • Jared C., Team 803.
    Mariposa Elementary School, 7940 Mariposa Ave., Citrus Heights.
        I installed eight 11 ft. metal tables on a concrete foundation. One yd. of concrete was turned into
    a sidewalk for the children and I repaired a curb and brick area. This gave the children a place to sit down to eat lunch or wait for their bus to arrive and a safe sidewalk to cross to the bus stop. Total people involved = 26, total hours = 165.

    Roseville Parks & Recreation property along Linda Creek under Rocky Ridge Bridge.
        The trees along Linda Creek needed beaver protection so we wrapped 180 trees with poultry netting (450 linear feet) around the bases after clearing vegetation and obstacles to create a secure enclosure. Total people involved = 30, total hours = 113.
