Eagle Board of Review December 12, 1999

 

 

  • Adam Loomis, Troop 349.
    Cornerstone Community United Methodist Church, Rocklin.
    Oleander bush removal and stump removal to clear land for church expansion. Additional weed removal to increase fire safety.Total people involved = 6, Total hours = 89.

 

  • Josh Miller, Troop 803.
    Quail Glen Elementary School.
    We removed the existing picnic tables and trees from the site area and cut and rolled the sod. Then a C.A.T. skinned a pad 8" down, and we reset the tables in concrete. The city built the actual shade structure after we were finished.

 

Eagle Board of Review November 21, 1999

 

  • Justin R. Lytle, Crew 220.
    Finn Hall, City of Rocklin.
    This project involved creating a Blood Donor Club for the city and specifically for the Rocklin Police. A blood drive was organized and conducted creating a blood supply start (32 units) for the club which will help the police officers and their need for emergency blood supply. Total people involved = 13. Total hours = 90.

 

  • Jeff Dees, Troop 918.
    United Foster Care Center, 8632 Greenback Lane, Orangeville, CA.
    I painted the interior walls of the building. In addition I made 2 picnic tables and two raised planters boxes to improve the outdoor meeting areas where parents and foster children and agency employees meet.

 

Eagle Board of Review October 24, 1999

 

  • Galen Ferrel, Troop 12.
    Sierra Foothills Unitarian Chruch, 12777 Bowman R., Auburn.
    I constructed a folding 4 part display rack on wheels. It can display books, pamphlets and papers. It also folds and rolls for easy compact storage. Materials alone cost $360.00. Total people involved = 10. Total hours = 126.

  • Marshall Andrews, Crew 120.
    Tahoe National Forester, Bear Valley Campground.
    In a burned area of the Cottonwood fire, 1700 seedlings were planted to help rehabilate the environment. The area was 100% stocked at 294 trees per acre. Total hours = 287, people involved = 24.

  • Russell Andrews, Crew 120.
    Sacramento County Fire Stations #s 52, 55 and 58; (Elder Creek Rd, Excelsior Rd., and Sloughhouse Rd.).
    I organized the construction of ten wildlife habitats (nesting boxes) for owls, bluebirds, and bats. They were placed at three rural Sacramento Co. Firestations that had previously displaced these animals.
    Total hours = 95, people involved = 27.

 

  • Ryan Schwieger, Troop 918.
    CaliforniaWaterfowl Association, 4630 Northgate Blvd., Suite 150, Sacramento, 95834.
    I supervised a team of 12 people to construct 15 Wood Duck nesting boxes to be placed throughout northern CA. The boxes will be distributed to volunteers to place into the appropriate locations. Total hours = 123.

  • Dustin Simmons, Team 203.
    Del Oro High School, 3301 Taylor Rd., Loomis
    I installed a concrete patio where The Del Oro Sports Boosters have BBQs during football games. The project required 18 yards of concrete and 180' of 2"x4" forms. Finished project improved the appearance of the whole area. Total hours = 100.

 

  • Tyler Walton, Crew 409.
    Serve our Seniors Inc., 9281 Oak Ave., Orangevale.
    The villa needed to be painted on the inside of the house so we painted everything that needed it.
    Total hours = 97, people involved = 21.

 

  • Andrew Chapman, Troop 818.
    Cavitt Jr. High School, 7200 Fuller Dr., Granite Bay.
    I constructed a student walkway and steps from the sidewalk leading behind the administration building. The walkway services over half of the student body who travel down a ravine as a short cut each day. The walkway is constructed of crushed granite, stairs and a bridge of railroad ties over a culvert.

 

  • David Carrier, Troop 918.
    Families of the rancho Estancia Del Copal, Guanajuato Mexico
    We donated approximately 150 Spanish books and magazines for children and adults so the families in the rancho would have a library. The books were purchased with donations collected by us for that purpose. The children's books were laminated (each page) because of the dusty conditions. I then delivered the books to them in person.
    Total hours = 173, people involved = 21.

 

Eagle Board of Review August 15, 1999

 

  • Murry Lind, Troop 121.
    St. Peter & Paul Church, Rocklin.
    We landscaped the planters in the parking lot replacing 15 yd of bark. We also replaced dirt in the front planters and replanted it with flowers. Total hours = 130, people involved = 29.

 

  • Brandon Stephens, Team 203.
    Loomis Elementary School, Loomis
    I tore out the old long jump pit and constructed a newer, larger, safer pit. I built the new frame out of 2x10's redwood and it is more than 25' long and 8' wide. Total hours = 69, people involved = 10.

 

  • Jon Pinney, Team 818.
    Granite Bay High School, #1 Grizzly Way, Granite Bay.
    I designed and constructed a sign for the front of the school. I subcontracted the cement base and arranged for a cement grizzly bear (our school mascot) that weighs in excess of 6000 lb. to be built (using the State Bear molds) and delivered. I used the aid of an architect/draftsman, contractor, and the boy scout helpers. The Scouts were involved mostly in the creation and cleanup of the lettering in the concrete. Total hours = 115, peolpe involved = 30.

 

  • David Wilkes, Team 818.
    Saddle Pals Therapeutic Center Inc., Orangevale.
    I painted a horse arena fence, added on 40 ft of sprinkler pipe, and installed another gate into the arena fence. The picture is the fence before I painted it. Total hours = 198, people involved = 32.

 

Eagle Board of Review July 18, 1999

 

  • Gabe Shumway, Crew 220.
    Rocklin High School, Rocklin.
    The "R" (symbol for the school) on the hill above the stadium was damaged and hard to see. I cleaned away weeds and constructed an attractive 18' x 31' diamond border filled with contrasting rocks to set off the "R" and repaired it.

 

Eagle Board of Review June 27, 1999

  • Daniel Lo Forte, Crew 201.
    Monte Verdi Nieghborhood Park, Rocklin.
    A redwood split-rail fence 328 feet long was installed along the border of the park to define the edge of the park and increase safety for the childern playing there. Total hours = 57, people involved = 12.

 

  • Eric Taylor, Troop 409.
    Cavitt Junior High School, Granite Bay.
    Repaired, replaced and repainted trail markers and benches in the amphitheater. Removed three fallen oak trees and numerous smaller tree falls throughout the trail. Stained and repainted Nature Trail sign at the trail head.

Eagle Board of Review May 16, 1999

  • Ryan Wagner, Troop 121.
    Oakhills Elementary School, 9233 Twin Schools Road, Granite Bay.
    Cleaned up nature trail by weed-eating. We planted trees and plants, trimed bushes, mulched plants, and marked plants for identification. I also built four observation benches (1'x10') for use at the trail area. We planted 25-30 plants and one tree. The benches were set in concrete. Total hours = 140, people involved = 20.

 

  • Stuart Peterson, Team 818.
    Butcher Jones Recreation area at Saguaro Lake, Mesa, Arizona.
    My project was to clear a 1/2 mile trail of all the compacted dirt that had been put on the trail by erosion so people in wheelchairs and rollers would be able to use the trail and access the fishing dock safely. Total hours = 178 with 40 helpers.

 

  • Ben Sewell, Team 830.
    LDS Church park, 3211 Boulder Creek Place, Loomis.
    I improved the parking system at the church by placing metal signs painted with necessary instructions. This will prevent people from parking in emergency areas, and on the lawn and provide handicap parking areas. 15 signs were placed taking a total of 50 hours with 11 people involved.

 

Eagle Board of Review April 18, 1999

  • Darin Smith, Team 120.
    Rucker Lake, Tahoe National Forest (Liahona Club, Campers).
    Three picnic tables made to replace the pavilion tables. Total hours = 92 with 12 people helping.

 

  • Jeremy West, Crew 120.
    Stanford Ranch Nature Trail, Rocklin.
    Damaged and missing information signs along the trail were replaced with signs (laminated paper covered with durable plastic) that are easy to replace when they get old or damaged. The trail was also repaired. Many water erosion areas were repaired with 18 cubic yards of gravel and water redirection berms were established to prevent further damage. Total hours = 212 and 50 people helped do the work.

 

  • Zack Weidkamp, Troop 121.
    Granite bay High School cross country team and track team.
    Mile markers were made and placed along a 2 mile and a 3 mile course on campus. A portable finish chute was made for the team. See the project. The course finishes and ends in the stadium.
    Total hours = 140 with over 30 people helping.

 

  • Brad Bowen, Team 409.
    Mormon Center camp grounds, 2100 California Cir., Rancho Cordova.
    In my Eagle project we restored playground equipment. We sanded, cleaned and painted the three structures in the picture. Total hours = 111 with 18 people involved.

 

  • Nick Latteri, Troop 801.
    Roseville High School softball fields far right.
    I installed a 6' by 12' concrete slab behind the back stop. On that I placed a scorer's table that the helpers I supervised built. Now the Roseville Bobby Sox and Varsity Softball will have an elevated table with a comfortable seat for the record keepers. Total hours = 294 with 18 people involved.

 

  • Kyle Smith, Team 803.
    Crestmont Elementary School, Roseville.
    The school requested three planter boxes to be used for the proschoolers to plant flowers and vegetables throughout the year. Total hours = 120 with 19 people involved.

 

  • James Biddle, Post 816.
    Placer Women's Center, Auburn.
    I supervised the movement of 5 cubic yards of bark from the driveway to the playground. Also, inside of the shelter I supervised painting a wall in their conference room. I also painted the front door. Total hours = 97 with 20 people helping.

 

  • Sam Zimmerman, Team 818.
    Cavitt Junior High School, Granite Bay.
    We resanded, painted over and repaired 11 picnic benches. Afterwards the benches looked brand-new, and the tables were more stable and safer. Total hours = 125 with 40 people helping.

 

  • Justin Voss, Troop 828.
    Orangevale Community Park, off Hazel and Oak St.
    I rebuilt a volley ball stand, repaired a fence board and painted whole fence, replaced bench and painted, along with 5 other benches, and replaced back boards to two horse shoe pits, and painted all 4 of them. Total hours = 130 with 16 people helping.

 

  • Ryan Davis, Troop 918.
    Pediatric Unit at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Medical Plaza, Roseville.
    I built a video cabinet to hold the videos, toys and games that my team was able to get donated. Total hours = 97 with 17 people helping.

 

Eagle Board of Review March 21, 1999

  • Andrew Martin, Troop 29.
    Town of Loomis.
    I cleared, cleaned and repainted 61 fire hydrants. With the help of 15 people a total of 62 hours were used to complete this project.

 

  • Jared Constantine, Crew 120.
    Breen Elementary School, 2751 Breen Dr., Rocklin.
    Three large picnic tables for the kindergarten area. I supervised about 20 helpers. Total hours = 85.

 

  • Bryan Fairman, Troop 121.
    Oakhills Elementary School, Roseville.
    I installed 20 trailmarkers along the nature trail. My project made the trail become twice as large as before. 16 people assisted me on the project and it took a total of 79 hours of work to complete.

 

  • Matt Fredericksen, Troop 505.
    Buljan Intermediate School, Roseville.
    I built three 500 pound picnic tables.

 

  • Devlin Hora, Troop 505.
    Sierra College, Rocklin.
    Cleaned, sanded, and restained 9 picnic tables in front of the Arboretum. Replaced 9 benches on the nature trail. Repaired 3 foot bridges and cleared debris from 2 sets of steps. Cleared 1.5 miles of trail, cutting back black berry bushes and poison oak. Total hours = 337.

 

  • Casey Tanner, Team 803.
    City of Roseville
    Casey served as site leader and oversaw creek cleanup activities involving 50 volunteers. The cleanup effort removed 30 bags of garbage/debris from Miner's Ravine, Linda Creek and an unnamed tributary to Kaseburg Creek in the City of Roseville. Total hours = 120.

 

  • Harrison Schmidt, Troop 828.
    Bayside Covenant Church, Granite Bay.
    I built a set of two wooden containers with adjustable shelves, on casters that will house sound equipment, a drum set, and other instruments for our church that meets at a high school. This will simplify setups and transportation and storage of equipment. I supervised 12 people and it took a total of 129 hours of work.

 

  • Nathan Taylor, Troop 830.
    Franklin Elementary School, Kte-3, 7050 Franklin School Rd.
    I built 6 trraced planter boxes (4' x 12'), one for each of the classrooms. It will allow teachers to plant gardens, conduct sensory exercises with students ("blind perception"), and do rudimentary biological and scientific exploration.

 

  • Christopher Frye, Team 863.
    Quail Glen Elementary School, 1250 Canevari Dr., Roseville.
    I built a 8' x 8' shed to hold the kindergartner's outside toys in. It was painted to match the school building. Total of 120 hours to complete.

 

Eagle Board of Review February 21, 1999

  • Shawn Hallam, Troop 120.
    Breen Elementary School, 2751 Breen Drive, Rocklin.
    There were no benches of any kind for children to sit on outdoors. I supervised 24 people during the building of 3 large picnic tables and the total project took 105 man hours.

 

  • Scott Bond, Troop 121.
    Sacramento County around Greenback and Fair Oaks.
    A message was spray painted on storm drains that reads "No Dumping, I live downstream"; with a picture of a fish. Around 600 drains were painted in order to prevent water pollution in California's rivers and bays. Total hours = 136 involving 18 people.

 

  • Brian Koch, Troop 121.
    Cavitt Junior High School in Granite Bay.
    There are three planters that just don't have good soil for plants so I laid bricks in each planter's space The end result was clean, and attractive. Total hours = 158 involving 11 people.

 

  • Doug Roush, Troop 121.
    Lake Baldwin, Granite Bay
    I repaired 10 previously made Wood Duck nesting boxes and then made 10 new ones. I then installed them in trees at the lake. I did this so Wood Ducks would have a place to nest in the trees. They will not nest on the ground.

 

  • Sam Barnes, Explorer Post 220.
    Memorial Quarry Park, Rocklin.
    Due to years of sun, rain and other conditions, the wood on these benches had rotted and lost it's paint. We had to take those old boards off, strip the frame and it's paint. Later we installed new boards and repainted them and the frame. Total hours = 119 involving 20 people.

 

  • Sam Bragg, Team 292.
    City of Roseville Adventure Club, a child care meeting at Sargent Ele. School,1200 Ridgecrest Dr., Roseville.  Raised beds (4'x2'x10') for planting by the children were built and filled with planter mix. They will be used by the children to learn how to grow flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
    Over 20 people helped complete this project with a total of 202 hours of work.

 

  • Jeff Hooker. Troop 505.
    Saddle Pals Therapeutic Center, 1614 Misty Wood Dr., Roseville.
    Repair the equipment barn roof and walls and make and install two large doors so the equipment can be locked up. This will also make the area much more presentable for the public.

 

  • Travis Garrett, Troop 745.
    East Ave. between 4th and 6th streets in Lincoln.
    A crew of helpers put in a total of 242 hours to get rid of weeds, dig out excess dirt apply weed mats, plant shrubs and fill in the area between plants with rocks. This will remain an attractive addition to the city streets for a long time.

 

  • Theron Mincks, Troop 828.
    Cirby Elementary School, 814 Darling Way.
    The project I chose had several parts. I cleaned up iron debris and old backstops that needed to be hauled away. There was an area of landscape known as their courtyard that needed to be watered, so I installed a watering system. I also repaired and painted all of the picnic tables.

 

Eagle Board of Review January 10, 1999

  • David Lloyd , Troop 11.
    Sierra College Blvd. Baptist Church, Rocklin.
    I supervised 14 people and we worked 98 hours to make many improvements. The first thing I did was to fix a crushed drain pipe. Then I sanded three front hand-rails. We also filled in a pot hole and sealed some cracks in the parking lot. Along with that a frame was made, by my dad and I, that is used to hold special-event banners. I also made the signs to prevent big-rigs (trucks) from using the parking lot to turn around because they were destroy8ing the curbs.

 

  • Scott Kaseman, Troop 29.
    Streets of Stanford Ranch, West Oaks, Ridgegate Bay and Park and Breen all in Rocklin
    Eight people and Scott worked 54 hours to paint 32 fire hydrants to make them more attractive and more visible for safety.

 

  • Austin Bowden, Explorer Post 45.
    Horseshoe Bar, Forest Hill.
    I supervised 37 people with a total 510 hours of work to clear a 1/4 mile trail along the American River so that there would be a safe path from the river take out to the Tunnel Chute.

 

  • Brian Cancimilla, Troop 121.
    Sargeant School, 1200 Ridge Crest Wy., Roseville.
    A planter box (15.5' X 4') was built and filled with potting soil and decomposed grantie was placed around the planter. There were 8 people involved in working a totoal of 102 hours.

 

  • David Carlyon, Explorer Post 220.
    LDS Welfare Farm, Auburn, CA.
    The entrance to the farm was cleaned up and landscaped using 30 donated plants and mulch and an irrigation system was installed. A picnic area was also cleaned and weeds removed. Fifteen people helped me accumulate 121 hours of work on this project.

 

  • John Kent, Troop 918.
    Horizon Schools (geared for lower income families and budgets), 1536 Sonoma Ave., Sacramento, CA.
    With the help of 15 people I remodeled the play area and replaced dangerous equipment and hazards. Replaced the broken deck, repaired the playhouse foundation, repaired and reanchored the jungle gym. A dead and rotted maple tree was removed. The broken fence was repaired and painted. The shed was also painted. The whole area was cleaned up to provide a safe environment.

 

Eagle Board of Review December 13, 1998

  • Lyle Schofield, Team 292.
    Cavitt Junior High School, Granite Bay, CA.
    My troop and I fabricated 7 benches in a circle at a rest park located behind the school. 18 people were involved and a total of 114 hours was necessary to finish the project. A future project will erect a trellis over the benches.

 

  • Kent Rawlins, Team 409.
    Hillsbrough Park, East Roseville Parkway.
    A bicycle Safety inspection was conducted for the community. Minor repairs were performed free of charge and safety tips were presented. If owners requested it there was an engraving station that put identification on the bicycle. I supervised 25 workers and there was a total of 175 hours devoted to this project.

 

Eagle Board of Review November 15, 1998

  • Eric Boswell, Troop 29.
    Sierra College Science Department, 5000 Rocklin Road, Rocklin.
    This is one of the three tables that we constructed. Two days of supervising 23 people and a total of 242 man hours were needed to plan and finish the project. This also included preparation of the site by leveling the ground, pulling weeds and berry brambles. Cement anchors for the tables were also buried to prevent movement of the tables.

 

  • Ryan Hunt, Troop 121.
    First United Methodist Church, 6414 Brace Road, Loomis.
    I supervised the building of a recycling shed for my church. It has three separate compartments to hold aluminum, plastics, and cardboard. The stuff is then held in large garbage bins waiting to be carried to a recycling center. This was a major construction project that took the supervision of 22 people and a total of 319 man hours to plan, execute and finish.

 

  • Branden Zipp, Troop 121.
    Sheridan Elementary School.
    I supervised the building of 8 picnic tables 8' long which took a total of 145 man hours to plan and execute. Due to their weight it was not necessary to chain the tables to anything. They helped the appearance of the yard and were placed by newly planted shade trees.

 

  • Ian Miller. Troop 918.
    Crestmont Elementary School, 1501 Sheridan Ave., Roseville, and Roseville East Little League.
    Sixteen other scouts and I spent 213 man hours repainting the equipment shed, both bleachers, the backstops, dugouts and a snack bar. We also built permanent benches on a different field.

 

Eagle Board of Review November 8, 1998

  • Chris Mullen. Troop 292.
    Oakhills/Ridgeview Schools, 9233 Twin School Drive, Granite Bay.
    A total of 24 feeders were constructed and placed along the nature trail. Three different feeders were made: 1) self filling house type, 2) box scrap feeder, and 3) slanted scrap feeders. The total project required 147 man hours to plan and finish with 14 people involved to supervise.

 

Eagle Board of Review October 18, 1998

  • Miles Kittridge, Troop 12.
    Placer County Sheriff's Department.
    Rebuild and repair bicycles that are stolen and recovered by the police and haven't been claimed. After repair these were then returned to the Sheriff for distribution to disadvantaged families. I also had to facilitate a change in the County Charter to allow the Sheriff's Dept. more flexibility in distributing bicycles that are recovered and left unclaimed.

 

  • Chris Obranovich, Troop 12.
    Roseville Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
    Basic obedience trained dogs are more easily adopted. Many dogs at the SPCA have had little to no training. When people are interested in a dog they are less interested if the dog jumps on them. The objective of the project was to train the dogs obedience so they won't be destroyed before they have a chance for adoption. With the help of 25 people and a total of 110 hours the job was accomplished.

 

  • Sam Haas, Explorer Post 30.
    Disadvantaged people served by Deseret Industries.
    I built 10 doll houses to be given away at Christmas. They will be painted and have carpet inside and be 25" high, 10" wide and 27" long.

 

  • Aaron Clift, Team 292.
    Cavitt Junior High School Community Park, 7200 Fuller Dr.
    With the help of 17 people and 130 hours of work I built 10 picnic tables for the school. This is part of a larger project to construct a community park for people to have family or group areas.

 

  • Spencer Brock, Team 292.
    Greenhills School, 8200 Greenhills Way, Granite Bay.
    I supervised 27 people who helped me prime, paint and sand 25 existing shelving units of various sizes for use in the class rooms. Total time involved was 95 hours.

 

  • Jonathan Glabas, Troop 828.
    First United Methodist Church of Roseville and Quail Glen Elementary School.
    Built and installed an information kiosk (moveable bulletin board) and a wall mounted bulletin board at the church to facilitate dispersal of information in an attractive way. I built for the school two rolling bookshelves with padded tops for sitting. Total labor of 212 hours and 23 people helped produce both of these.

 

Eagle Board of Review September 20, 1998

  • Ryan Aplanalp, Troop 11.
    Antelope Meadows Elementary School, 8343 Palmerson Dr., Antelope.
    I refurbished
    six planter areas, repaired the sprinklers, designed a new layout of plants and trees and directed the planting of the plants and trees. A total of 131 hours and 15 people were used to finish this project.

 

  • Rudolph Heuser, Troop 11.
    Crestmont Elementary School, 1501 Sheridan Way, Roseville.
    Octagonal benches were made and installed in the grass around two trees to provide a shady rest place for students during recess. The job of 169 hours incorporated the help of 10 people.

 

  • Kevin Pinegar, Troop 12.
    Loomis Grange Hall No. 638, 6486 Cowell Rd., in Penryn. Picnic area useable by the whole community.
    I directed the light landscaping around the hall so it could be used as a picnic area. I then organized the building of
    3 picnic tables with attached seats to be placed in the area. A total of 112 hours of work by 15 people made this project possible.

 

  • John de Graaff, Troop 121.
    Lutheran Covenant Church of the Resurrection (6365 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay), and Granite Bay Branch Library (6475 Douglas Blvd.).
    The parking lots of both places are too small. They agreed to share both of their parking lots during functions. I built
    signs for both places to provide information and alert people for additional parking.

 

  • Steve Trythall, Team 292.
    Cavitt Junior High School, 7200 Fuller Dr., Granite Bay.
    This picture is
    one of the five barbecue pits that stand on a pedestal in the new Cavitt JHS Community Park. Fifteen People helped me install them. Most of them had to have specially designed foot stands made and welded on because they were designed to be installed in dirt, not on cement.

 

  • Brian Cooley, Explorer Post 292.
    Greenhills Elementary School, Granite Bay.
    I built
    4 benches for the playground. A total of 18 hours and the help of 19 people were required to finish this project.

 

  • Michael Koberlein, Troop 830.
    The town of Loomis and the historic Takemoto Family Monument.
    The Loomis town
    monument site was successfully restored. The surrounding area was irrigated and beautified by the way of planting plants, pruning trees and installing a timed drip system. The work of 87 hours by 13 people was necessary to complete this worthwhile project.

Eagle Board of Review August 30, 1998

  • John Hooten, Troop 121.
    The community of Granite Bay and Placer County benefited.
    I supervised members in my troop in advertising and collecting old American Flags which are no longer emblems of display. We then gave a ceremony involving 53 troop members and parents in which we
    respectfully retired the flags by burning them in a fire built for that purpose. A total of 260 hours were used to finish this project.

 

  • Matt Meinzer, Team 201.
    Twenty one homes in the city of Rocklin benefited.
    The project consisted of making appointments with families and surveying their home for dangers. Hot water straps were installed for earthquake damage prevention in many older homes. The owners were also educated about other utility dangers. We taught people what to do in case of emergency dealing with gas and water lines. At one house the hot water support stand had to be rebuilt to make it safe.

 

Eagle Board of Review August 16, 1998

    Warren T. Eich Jr. High School, Special Education class, 1509 Sierra Gardens Dr., Roseville. .
    Seventeen sunflowers (3ft to 8ft tall) made of exterior grade plywood and painted were screwed to the outside of the three walls of a portable building. Potted plants were also placed near the entrance.

    Loomis Basin Congregational United Church of Christ, 6440 King Road, Loomis.
    The landscaping job in front of the church took 16 people a total of 113 hours of work to finish. Rosemary plants (37) were planted and a drip system was installed to keep them growing.

    Cavitt Junior High School, 7200 Fuller Dr., Granite Bay.
    I installed landscaping and replaced sprinkler heads
    in front of the administration building. I used about 150 plants covering about 1/10 acre. This took 30 people 108 hours of work to finish.

    Roseville Dog Owners Group at Marco Dog Park located on Sierra Gardens Blvd. at Douglas Blvd., Roseville.
    I constructed a permanent
    brick deck with two leash holding structures in front of the information stand to make it more attractive and useful.

    Old City Cemetery, 10th & Broadway in Sacramento.
    I cleaned headstones that were covered with lichen. They had to be scrubbed with a bleach solution and scrubbed until the lichen was removed. The
    large headstone in the picture took about seven hours of the total 176 hours spent by 27 workers. Some of the headstones had not been cleaned for over 100 years before this.

    Sierra Gardens Elementary School, 711 Oakridge Dr., Roseville.
    With help from 21 other people (164 hours of work) I built a
    brick sign with solid aluminum letters at the entry way to the school to beautify the school and display its name. The aluminum alloy letters were forged by my uncle.

    I constructed 4 sets of
    bookcases for the 3rd grade classroom. The old ones had splinters and exposed nails and the new ones will be safe and help the teacher organize the materials for class. Seventeen people worked a total of 110 hours on this project.

    Over 200 collected religous items (books pamphlets and videos) were sent to a poor district chruch in Ireland.

    Neighborhood watch program and my residential area.
    I built 50 "72 Hour Kits" that contained 3 days worth of food and then organized a Neighbor Watch Meeting that explained natural disasters and the kits. Here on the

    Rosevill High School (Richards Field) and Roseville West Little League.
    My troop (22 people) helped me
    repaint the grandstands and blockhouse and wall. They were water blasted and sanded before painting and many boards had to be replaced. It took a total of 161 hours to accomplish this project.

    I sanded and

    Del Oro Teachers and community.
    I organized and taught a class on Internet resources and how to use the Internet and those resources to locate information of interest. Two classes were conducted at the school with each adult (parents and teachers) on a computer connected to the Internet for practice web surfing. Two teaching sessions, each 2 hours long were offered and 10 people acted as my aids to answer all the questions. A total of 36 people attended the sessions.

    The bleachers were in bad condition and needed new boards and a paint job. With the help of 17 other people and a total of 78 hours the
    two white bleachers look great now.

    I painted the corner curbs within Lincoln to increase safety and make the city more attractive. We painted over 210 curbs. There were at least 70 people that helped including Scouts and adults. A total of 353 man hours were needed to finish this job.

    A public satisfaction study was devised, distributed, collected and the results were presented to Division Manager of Sacramento Municipal Courts to determine what needs to be changed to tailor itself to the public's needs.

    Rocklin Cemetery at Kannasto St. and Grove St.
    I built an
    information booth made out of the same granite as the entrance to the cemetery. It contains a map, a list of notable people and monuments, and a short history of the cemetery. Not including adults, 12 Scouts helped and all together a total of 110 man hours of work was involved.

    Oakhills Ridgeview Nature Trail.
    I built a fence that was needed to protect and beautify the entrance to the trail.
    Eight Explorer Posts were placed and a heavy duty rope was strung between them.

    Griffith Quarry in Penryn at intersection of Taylor Rd and Rock Springs Rd.
    Construct a trail that has a quarter mile to exercise and make it possible to be able to appreciate this historical landmark.

 

  • Nick Cusick, Troop 505.
    Sacramento Blood Center held at First United Methodist Church of Roseville, 109 Washington Blvd.
    I organized the advertising and contraction and tear-down of a
    community blood drive. Also aid was given to the actual event by helping with pre-registration and feeding the donors. A total of 24 units of blood was collected.

 

  • Michael Lineback, Troop 505.
    The ANNEX of the Presbyterian Church at 515 Sunrise Ave. in Roseville.
    I repainted and restored the
    outside appearance of the ANNEX by removing the old paint and applying new paint. I called upon 20 helpers (Scouts, and youth from church and school). There was 158 man hours involved in this project.

 

  • Gregory Aylstock, Troop 816
    Spanger School in Roseville.
    I put up
    seven raised planter boxes (6' X 12'), one for each of the classrooms to allow teachers to provide science experiments and let the children learn how to grow the plants. Each of the beds also had water taps installed. The job took 16 helpers and 154 man hours of planning and labor.

    WWW.GRIZZLY.EDU web site for Granite Bay HS. Presently restricted to the school intranet, it will eventually make to the Internet. It includes a sports page, clubs page, picture of the month page, a calendar page, and a page with information about the school. In all, approximately 15 people assisted with the project with a total of 191 hours of work.

    Rocklin Springview Park Frisbee Golf Course.
    I built a tee box at each hole. Each box was made of redwood and filled with decomposed granite. Each basket was repainted, and new signs were put at each tee off. I supervised 23 people and 190 total hours were worked on this project.

    Woodcreek High School Booster Club.
    I built
    four redwood planters for the club. Supervising 8 people and working a total of 42 man hours completed the job.

    I poured an
    asphalt walkway over a dirt path behind Success HS. About 20 people and about 140 hours of work accomplished the job. This will provide a clean walkway for the people that use this popular route.

    I built a
    sand volleyball court. 197 hours of work and 20 helpers were involved. It is used often and well appreciated by all. Underground drainage was provided to keep the sand dry.

 

  • Cameron Tidwell, Team 120.
    Rocklin City Hall.
    I landscaped the
    parking strip at Rocklin City Hall around the City Hall sign. I designed the sprinkler system and landscape including trees, shrubs, flowers, grass and bark mulch. I had over 37 people involved for a total of 287 hours of labor and planning.

    The community of Citrus Heights and the Citrus Heights Historical Society.
    I painted the exterior of the
    Club House. I also reroofed a portion of the roof and put in a new kitchen floor. I got help from 12 different people for a total of 211 hours of work.

 

  • Sean Favero, Team 818
    Benefited Carmichael Sheriffs Department and the people of Carmichael.
    I made a
    Bicycle Identification Form (B.I.F) to help the public retrieve their stolen bicycles. We tested the form at a bike rodeo and engraved serial numbers on bicycles for free. I had a total of 12 people help me. The form is now at the Sheriff's Department and will be used in future bike rodeos also.

    I planted 25 fifteen-gallon
    sycamore trees at four community parks in the Sunrise Recreation and Park District. Ten were planted at Madera Park (Wonder St. in Citrus Heights), one at McDonald Field (Antelope and Old Auburn), four at Northwoods Park (Old Ranch Rd. in Orangevale) and ten at Tempo Park (Fair Oaks Blvd. in Orangevale).

    LDS Church in Granite Bay on Cavitt Stallman Rd.
    I was able to design and install
    four benches around the flag pole at the church. The benches are set into a concrete pad that is as large as the bench so lawn mowers don't have to navigate under them.

    Westville Area and Sugarpine area of Tahoe National Forest.
    I
    reconstr ucted an approximately 250 foot long section of a fence that was damaged when the ground eroded away. I also supervised building and installing 20 bat boxes to attract bats and help improve the wildlife diversity of the area.

    Oakhills School, Granite Bay.
    Oakhills School created a nature trail on campus. This trail allows students to get a hands-on experience of restoring and caring for a natural environment. This trail is run by parent volunteers that have a lot of work in making sure the trail is as good a teaching tool as possible. I organized with these parent volunteers and scouts (41) a project that completed a majority of the work that needed to be done on the trail.

    I directed 17 Scouts and helped in building stands for the Oakhills Computer Lab. The stands allowed for more desk space for the students by allowing a space under the monitor for the keyboard to be placed when not in use.

    At Loomis park, off King Road, the new tee-ball field has 2 new
    dugouts for the players including benches and protective chain link fence.

 

  • Blake Howes, Team 918.
    Maidu Indian Village Historic Site, Maidu Park, City of Roseville Park District.
    Cleaning up Maidu Indian Park consisted of four major parts. The biggest of which was to remove an old barb wire fence that was no longer needed. This fence was over 500 yards long and took about eight hours to remove, even with 15 scouts working on it.
    The picture shows about 1/3 of the total fence in the back of the head curator's truck. The other parts of the project included painting the two foot bridges, removing some huge blackberry bushes, and clearing out some rain culverts.

    Quail Glen Elementary School
    Three trees were planted to shade the area, and three picnic tables were installed to sit in the shade. Brandon and 15 others also improved 30 trees which already existed on the site by removing the grass from around the trunks and fixing the incorrectly staked trees. The site was right next to the playground so parents can watch their children play while sitting in the shade.

    Constructed an "R" on the side of a hill above the visitor bleachers at the stadium. The "R", made with over 18 tons of granite, stands 28 ft. tall and 18 ft. wide.

    Supervising a crew of 55, David lifted over 100 headstones of many sizes up to and above ground level. With time, the grave markers had sunk significantly and caused many problems that have existed since 1867.

    My project was the renovation of the educational "
    garden area" at Parker Whitney School. With the help of 13 Scouts and a few adults we pulled the weeds, cleaned and repaired the raised gardening boxes and greenhouse, turned the soil in the beds, repainted signs, repaired water faucets, removed a deteriorated box and replaced it with 4 benches for students.

 

  • Chris Koch, Troop 121.
    Negro Bar along the American River in Folsom
    I built a kiosk for the Department of Parks and Recreation. The
    kiosk is double sided with two casings of Plexiglas to display information for users of the area. It will contain information that hikers may need and alert them to any potentially dangerous situations and upcoming events. Total hours spent by 16 people was 152 hours.

 

  • Jason Taylor, Team 818.
    I developed an emergency notification plan for my church including a database of people, needs, skills, and blood types. The plan was exercised to access effectiveness. I presented the church leader with a
    map of the area with important people and information clearly defined.

    Built planter boxes. Ordered planting soil and filled the planters with the soil.

  • Douglas Worley, Troop 12.
    Loomis local residents and wildlife benefited.
    The Project was to stencil 161 storm drains with a fish design and the legend "Protect our Creeks, No Dumping." Every storm drain in Loomis drains into the pre-existing streams, not into the sewer. Every Drain in Loomis with a suitable cement sidewalk was painted to prevent the dumping of toxic paints, antifreeze, oils, and other chemicals into the local streams and creeks.

    Replaced and relocated trail markers. Fifteen of the markers were on the trail, two of them were missing, and he also had six others that were relocated.

    My Eagle Project was a refurbishment of a room at Project Homestart in Roseville CA. (It used to be the Flamingo Hotel). Included in the refurbishment was painting, placing linoleum in the bathroom, fixing plumbing problems (toilet seals, shower drains), replacing light fixtures, and general cleaning (which didn't happen a whole lot before...). Project Homestart takes in homeless people for about 6 weeks, requires that they not use drugs/alcohol, provides group sessions for dealing with addictions, finances, relationships, and law. At the end, families are put into an apartment and are found a job.

    I presented a speach at the opening ceremonies of the new library giving the background and history of the Maidu Indians.  I organized the whole opening ceremony for the library which included the speach and the flag ceremony, lots of decorations with baloons and tables and chairs.  I also organized the open house following the ceremony which included refreshments served by us and then we cleaned up everything after the public was gone.

Handed out flyers to a large neighborhood advertising the drive, then collected several truckloads of used clothing from the residents.     Benefited the handicapped individuals in Roseville.
    I organized a survey of parking lots in Roseville to determine which had inadequate and
    adequate handicapped parking facilities. After I analyzed the results, I sent letters to the owners of the lots which did not meet city and state requirements. Each letter described the regulations that were deficient and expressed the hope that improvements would be made. In a number of cases, my letter has prompted corrections to be made.
