Iron Horse District News

May 2010

Over 6,000 Scouts and Scouters attended Scout Expo last weekend, April 30, May 1-2nd at Beales Air force Base. The Iron Horse District boasted the largest District representation at the Council-wide event with over 550 participating.  A report out at our May Roundtable indicated that everyone had an enjoyable time with many scheduled activities.

Recharter
Recharter certificates are now available.  Please contact Michelle Pisias, District Executive, at mpisias@gecbsa.org or Bill Patterson, District Commissioner, billatnhs@hotmail.com if you have not already picked up at Roundtable.

Approaching our Recharter cycle in October – December 2010, it will be critically important that each Unit ensures that Key Contact Leaders are properly trained for their position. You will not be able to Recharter for 2011 without the proper electronic documentation on the National BSA database. Verifying documentation and process for updating training records will be discussed at our upcoming Roundtables. Also, please visit the BSA National website for more information at:

Scouting for Food
Our Scouts collected 18,868 pounds of food on Saturday, March 13 for the Placer County Food Bank.  The demand for food has been high in our community food services during these tough economic times and we thank everyone who helped support this real community need.  We also thank Pam Kreiser for her continued leadership and support of the Scouting for Food program for past 7 years.

Friends of Scouting (FOS)
Contributions to the Friends of Scouting are critically important for the successful operations of the Golden Empire Council, summer camps, and professional staff.  In fact, one third of the Council budget and the infrastructure of our local Scouting programs depend on our willingness to help financially. If you have not already given, please consider doing so. You may contact your Unit FOS Coordinator, Phil McAnelly at mcanelly@surewest.net or Michelle Pisias mpisias@gecbsa.org. To date FOS campaign in the Iron Horse District has raised $58,711 which 76% of our 2011 goal of $76,800.

Eagle Scouts
As of April 2010, Iron Horse has advanced 19 Scouts to the Eagle Rank, the highest rank in Scouting. It was not until August 2009, that we recognized our 19th Eagle Scout. Please visit their accomplishments at http://www.gec-bsa.org/districts/ironhorse/eaglesnest/eagles. Many thanks to our adult leaders who make dreams come true for our youth.
