On Line Computer Training


Cub Scout Fast Start , Boy Scout Fast Start, This is Scouting, Leader Specific Training, Safety Afloat and Safe Swim training is now available directly from the BSA Online Learning Center and in the comfort of your own home at: http://olc.scouting.org. At the end, please print out completion certificate as proof of training and give a copy to the District Training Officer.

Venture Fast Start is now available Online at: http://www.scouting.org/venturing/faststart/. At the end, please print out completion certificate as proof of training and give a copy to the District Training Chair.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
New course required for Cub Scout Leaders who want to take their Wolves and Bears camping. For the Cub Scout Leader with the desire to plan and carry out an outdoor experience for the pack, and for anyone who wants to understand the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA Outdoor Program.

Basic Leader Training (This is Scouting and Leader Specific Training),

The New Leader Essentials training is designed for all volunteers in all programs. It provides the basics of the Scouting programs, the age appropriateness of those programs, and our values and methods. The New Leader Essentials is provided as the first part of Adult Leader Basic Training, the remainder of the course is Leader Specific Training which addresses specific leadership positions in the different programs.(All Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters must also complete Outdoor Leader Skills Training to complete their Basic Leader Training.)All leaders complete The New Leaders Essentials portion, then break out into individual groups for specific training in::

    Outdoor Leader Skills Training
    If your position requires working in the outdoor program with youth, this training is required for your position. Each unit must have at least one person trained in the appropriate outdoor program. All Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters must take this course to complete their Basic Leader Training.

    Cub Scout Leader Fast Start:
    For all registered adults. Learn the basics necessary to be an asset to the unit. Fast Start provides immediate information and guidance in the objectives and resources to help new leaders do a good job. There are five videos: Cubmaster, Pack Committee, Den Leader, Webelos Leader, Tiger Cub Coach. Contact the District Cub Training chair for details.

    ONLINE TRAINING: Fast Start Training provides information to aid new leaders in carrying out their responsibilities for the first few weeks and to motivate them to attend basic training. Click here for online Fast Start Training

    Cub Roundtable:
    Held monthly, provides pack leaders with supplemental training. Join in fun and fellowship while learning about the upcoming month's program.

    Den Chief Training: A one day training course for Den Chiefs in Cub Scout packs. Excellent for developing young leaders.

     

    District Leadership Workshop
    The purpose of the District Leadership Workshop is to provide a variety of educational classes designed to help District Leaders, Commissioners, adult volunteers, Institutional Heads, and Charter Representatives better serve the youth of Northern California. Outstanding faculty and a staff of experienced Scouters are recruited to provide this national B.S.A. curriculum.

    Cold Weather Camping Awareness (OKPIK)
    This course is designed to provide to Scouting leaders, the knowledge and skills that will aid them in the planning and execution of winter outings in the snow. It consists of two sessions, an all-day indoor session where you will learn skills specific to snow backpacking/camping and a weekend overnight backpack where you will put the skills to use in the real world. In addition to specific information to supplement the skills areas already covered in Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills, new areas such as snow shoeing, emergency survival and ski safety will be included among others.

    Basic Backpacking Awareness
    This course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills that Scouting leaders need to lead all lengths of backpacking outings. In addition to supplemental information in the areas already covered, the course includes material on trail profile, leadership, equipment care and an introduction to HAT First Aid.

     

    Paddle Sports Awareness:
    This course is designed to provide to Scouting leaders, the knowledge and skills that will aid them in the planning and execution of water-based outings. It consists of two sessions, an evening indoor session where you will learn specific skills and be swim checked, plus a Saturday practical session on the water where you will put the skills to use in the real world. In addition to specific information to supplement the skills areas already covered in the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills course, new areas such as boat handling and selection will be covered.

    NYLT is the new six-day course especially designed for Scouts who are serving in troop leadership positions.

    Trainer Development Conference
    (Formerly known as Train the Trainer) Trainer Development Conference is a one day training course designed to give you the information you need to be a great trainer. After lots of discussion, and activities, you'll walk away with a binder full of resources and a number of experiences that you'll use over and over again.
       
    Troop Committee Training
    BSA Troop Committee Training consists of two parts: New Leader Essentials, and the Troop Committee Challenge. You'll need to take New Leader Essentials one time as an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. Each time you change your position of responsibility, you'll want to take the appropriate Position Specific Training course. Here are the currently scheduled training dates. Please check with the individual district to see which part they will be offering on these days:
    Scout Trainers Conference, Area III
    The purpose of the conference is to promote Area III quality training through quality Scout Trainers, review the latest training materials, provide a forum for trainers to share their knowledge and experience with others and review the mechanics of promoting and presenting a successful training course, and certify Wood Badge Course Directors. Attendees must be nominated b the District Training Chair and approved by the Council Executive. Only those trainers approved by the Council Executive will be allowed to register for this conference.
       

    Webelos Outdoor:
    A training session offered for Webelos Leaders that covers the outdoor section in the Webelos program

    Wood Badge
    21st Century Wood Badge is the advanced training program for all Scouters involved in the BSA programs. The primary purpose of the Wood Badge experience is to strengthen Scouting in our units, districts, and local councils. The Wood Badge "Ticket" represents the participant's commitment to complete a set of personal goals relating to that individual's Scouting position. Upon completion of the Wood Badge "Ticket" as certified by a ticket counselor and the Scout Executive, the participant will be presented with the Wood Badge certificate, neckerchief, woggle, and beads at an appropriate public ceremony.     Youth Protection:
    A 64-minute video designed for the distributing of information about Youth Protection policies, such as barriers to abuse within Scouting.

"Scouting Safety.. Begins with Leadership"

 

All leaders should be trained in each of the following courses. When you fill out a Tour Permit, chances are you will be required to have been trained in one or all of them:
*Youth Protection (all adults)

*Weather Hazards (all adults)

*Health and Safety Training 
* Safe Swim Defense (if water involved)
*Safety Afloat (if boating involved)


The Guide to Safe Scouting is available in two formats:

  • One for reading on-line - this version is divided into chapters and includes a search engine.
  • Another for reading off-line - the entire publication is presented in a single interface to facilitate print-out.
