| Buttes Area - Geocaching Merit Badge Final Requirement |
Posted Aug. 9, 2011 |
National BSA Announces
We are pleased to release the attached, final requirements for the Geocaching Merit Badge. This merit badge is a natural extension of the navigational components of Boy Scout rank advancements and offers the opportunity for Scouts to learn the latest in digital tools to extend that knowledge in a fun, active outdoor experience.
The merit badge emblem and pamphlet are still under development. We will update you when those items are finalized and we have a handle on when they are anticipated to be in local council service centers. Once we can see that timing more clearly, we will establish the earn date so advancement can be entered. |

| El Dorado - Are You Tougher Than a Boy Scout? |
Posted Jan. 19, 2012 |
More details are on the way, but here’s the latest: the Are You Tougher Than a Boy Scout? series that has been in the works is scheduled to debut on the National Geographic Channel this coming fall.
The series from Original Productions (Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers) will feature teams of adults from different backgrounds facing off against teams of Scouts in challenges based on the Boy Scout Handbook.
“This is a wonderful, unique opportunity to demonstrate the value, fun, and challenge of Scouting to audiences who might be wondering what Scouting in 2012 is all about,” said BSA Chief Scout Executive Bob Mazzuca. “We know Scouts are ‘Prepared. For Life.TM,’ so they’re up to facing the challenges life throws their way. Watching them face and overcome challenges on national television will be a new way for people to get a glimpse of what it means to be a Scout. It’s a good opportunity to continue building thebrand of Scouting and show the world how cool Scouting can be.”
Production of the six-episode series is set to begin this spring, with the series premiering later this year on the National Geographic Channel. |
