Chairman's Corner

Hello!

Thanks for visiting the Soaring Eagle District website.

Soaring Eagle District is an administrative subdivision of the Golden Empire Council.  We are the southernmost of 14 districts in the council and are composed of scouting units from the South Sacramento area to Galt and from Wilton to the Delta communities of Clarksburg, Isleton, Walnut Grove, and Rio Vista.  We serve all four types of Scouting units—Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Teams and Venture Crews.

The district staff is composed principally of volunteers from units within the district.  The district provides a number of services to the units and the youth in our area.  For example, these services include:

  • Training.  We provide the required training for unit leaders (Den Leaders, Cubmasters, Committee Members, Scoutmasters/Assistant Scoutmasters, etc.) at least twice a year in the Elk Grove area. In addition we also provide training for Den Chiefs.  Baden-Powell said that every boy deserves a trained leader and the District Training Team ensures that the leaders in your unit have the opportunity to take their BSA required training.
  • Activities.  We organize a number of District-wide events and activities during the year.  These include the District Camporee, Merit Badge Super Saturday, Twilight Camp, Scouting for Food, and the District Pinewood Derby.
  • Advancement Support.  Our Advancement Chair maintains the District-wide master list of merit badge counselors for the 120+ merit badges, proofs and approves Eagle Scout applications and arranges for Eagle Scout Boards of Review.
  • Membership Support.  Our Membership Chair and her team provide training and support for new member recruiting efforts throughout the district.
  • Commissioner Service.  Commissioners are experienced scouters who are assigned to provide expert feedback, advice and guidance to unit leaders.  Their job is to help units have a better program.
  • Roundtable.  The District Roundtable Commissioners provide monthly presentations about the Cub Scout and Boy Scout program.  The aim of these presentations is to provide information to help improve the program at the unit level.  Roundtable is also the forum for connecting with leaders in other units throughout the District.
  • Recognition.  The district puts on an annual awards dinner recognizing our outstanding volunteer leaders at the unit and district level.

I strongly encourage you to get involved.  The District Roundtables are held at 7:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the LDS building at the corner of Vintage Park Drive and Elk Grove-Florin Road.  The District Committee Meeting is held generally on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the LDS building at 6711 Seasons Drive in Elk Grove.  I hope to see you there.

We’re here to help you.  Please contact me at majormonson@gmail.com if there is anything I can do to help you make scouting better for youth in the Soaring Eagle District.

Yours in Scouting,
Kyle Monson
District Chair
