| Council - NEW BSA Youth Protection Training Change |
Posted Jun. 30, 2010 |
Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA.
Important Changes to the BSA Youth Protection Training Policies.
Effective June 1, 2010
Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers.
New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training before they submit their application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.
Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
You do not have to be a registered member or have a member ID to take Youth Protection training.
To take Youth Protection training go to "www.MyScouting.org" and create an account, or click "more information" below.
From the MyScouting.org portal, click on E-Learning and take the Youth Protection training.
Upon completion, you may print a certificate of completion to submit with a volunteer application or submit the completion certificate to the unit leader for processing at the local council.
When your volunteer application is approved, you will receive a BSA membership card which includes your member ID number. After you receive your membership card, log back into MyScouting, click on My Profile and update the system by inputting your member ID number. This will link your Youth Protection training records, and any other training, in MyScouting to your BSA membership.

Posted Jul. 21, 2010 |
On September 27, 2010 the Golden Empire Council, Boy Scouts of America will be holding the 36th Annual Metro Golf Tournament at the Morgan Creek Golf & Country Club. Through the proceeds, Scouting will be able to expand its present programs to serve the youth of the Northern California Region more effectively. Presently, we are servicing 20,000 youth, and with the support and outstanding participation of the community, this event will again be very successful.
We would like to request your participation, or that you consider being a contributor for a drawing prize or an auction-item donor. This is an excellent opportunity for your business to gain a high degree of visibility among a formidable group of other business and community leaders in the area, in addition to providing the important financial support greatly needed by our local Scouting organization. There will be hand-lettered signs posted throughout the tournament recognizing your support and/or sponsorship of the golf tournament. Over one hundred players and many more spectators will be aware of your support of the Scouting program.
Thank you for your consideration of this worthy cause. Remember, your participation will assure the continued success of Scouting.

| Council - South Placer Soapbox Derby |
Posted Aug. 9, 2010 |
The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934.
Every year, kids from all over the country build simplified cars built from kits and race them in local races, such as the event that will take place in Louisville in June.
The race cars are powered by gravity and are timed as they roll down either a dedicated track or a temporary street circuit.
The goals of the Soap Box Derby program have not changed since it began in 1934. They are to teach youngsters some of the basic skills of workmanship, the spirit of competition and the perseverance to continue a project once it has begun.
