  • Everyone else at training. Nothing else to discuss

August 17, 2006


  • Present - Dr. Walter Quinn, Patti Skiles, Steve Dmytriw, Janet Owen, Becky Brover, Ben Skiles, Marty Hansen, Dave and Buff Fleming.
  • Meeting called to order by Becky Brover at 7:10PM.
  • Becky is resigning as of September 1st as our DE. She will stay on as our Popcorn Kernel. She will be at the September Roundtable. Her e-mail address is RABrover@SBAglobal.net.
  • Re-charter time. We will do a district talent survey. Each Unit must have a person on the District, even if it is a real small job. Becky wants the e-mail addresses, she will take the e-mails and have them get Youth Protection and Fast Start trained, tell about Roundtable and other things. Personal contact works.
  • Fall Camporee - Troop 897 will do Weboree on October 20th and 21st.
  • Yolo Outdoor training will be October 27th and 28th. Yolo New Leader Essentials will be on September 30th. Trailblazer New Leader Essentials will be on October 28th.
  • Dave Fleming will check with Troop 488 and see if they want to the Camporee in the spring. There will be NO CAMPOREE this year.
  • Day Camp summary - Under Budget.
  • OA Conclave going well.
  • Finance - Get this year FOS stuff to Becky. We will start again in December.
  • University of Scouting will be January 20, 2007 in Woodland.
  • Popcorn Show and Sell starts August 18th.
  • Internet Advancement information will be at September Roundtable.
  • New Business: Marty Hansen met with Jeff. Marty will be handling the LDS Eagle Scouts. He will be helping the boys with the paperwork and the Eagle projects and then handing the boys over to Jeff for the Eagle Board of Review.
  • Need Unit Commissioners, and also need to get articles in the newspaper, Grapevine, and the Around Town.

July 20, 2006

  • Meeting called to order by Becky Brover at 7:11PM.
  • Roundtable – Cub Scouts
    Boy Scout Roundtable – BBQ & Planning
    Becky needs ½ hour for Program Preview
  • NO AUGUST ROUNDTABLE
  • Commissioner Report- Membership 6 scouts below last year. Quality Units not as good as last year.
  • Troop 897 will run the Weboree, but can only do it on October 20th & 21st. Debbie Gordon suggested combining the Camporee and Weboree on the same weekend. This weekend is the same weekend as the Yolo Training dates. Debbie will see if her Troop wants to do the Camporee.
  • Web site- the web site is up and running. Council Calendar – Program will be replaced soon. Steve wants the calendar so he can put up our dates. He has info. On past events posted.
  • Day Camp – great camp, went well, real organized. Had 150+ boys. Thanks Jen and Cheryl.
  • Summer Camp – Camp Lassen was good.
  • OA – August 25th, 26th, and 27th Fall Fellowship at Lassen. Conclave – at Dixon May Fair September 15th, 16th and 17th.
  • Finance – 2 LDS wards, down a little bit. Family campaign – little behind. We should be able to reach our goal.
  • Popcorn – Materials will be out by end of month. We need a Popcorn Kernel. Becky will call Barry Gordon. Paul Liashanko will due the popcorn distribution. Show and sell dates are on the Council Web site.
  • Program Preview – Information will be mailed to Units by end of the month.
  • The nominating committee appointed Dr. Walter Quinn as our new District Chair. He will do the job for the next 2 years. We will do a Sunday brunch on August 13th to meet Dr. Quinn.
  • Fall Recruitment – Debbie Gordon will help Dave to do Fall Round-ups. We would like to see a citywide roundup. Becky will have 5 banners made up to put around town for Membership and roundups. We will also try to target the City Sports programs, like Soccer, and Baseball.
  • Merit Badge Counselor – Patti will do a new Merit Badge Counselor list.
  • Training Information needs to be updated.
  • Advancement – Jeff Wilson has a handle on the Eagle Scouts.

  • Present – John Hensley, Duke Hughes, Cheryl Johnson, Janette Basinger, Marty Hansen, Patti Skiles, Steve Dmytriw, Janet Owen, Jen Hein, John Ganaway, Becky Brover, Ben Skiles.
  • Meeting called to order by Duke Hughes at 7:05PM.
  • Roundtable – Cub Scouts
    Boy Scout Roundtable – Boating/Canoeing
    Becky needs ½ hour for Program Preview

  • September Roundtable – Cub Scouts -
    Boy Scouts – Outdoor Roundtable – Planning and BBQ
  • District Pinewood Derby had 20 to 25 participants. They had an OA callout.
  • 2007 District Pinewood Derby – Top 3 winners from each pack. Each pack will give names of their winners to a district member. On May 3rd will be the District Pinewood Derby. We will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place awards and participation ribbons.
  • Commissioners Meeting – Duke Hughes – National meeting June 24th – District leadership training. Membership Validation 2 times a year. Quality Unit Award more this fall. Talked about On-line Advancement and On-line training.
  • Planned out our 2006-2007 calendar of dates.
  • Oct. 19th District Meeting at the LDS church on Portsmouth.
  • January 20th University of Scouting.
  • MBTD Patti will come up with the dates.
  • Kid Feast – Sept. 2006 – Steve gave application to Debbie Gordon. Suggested having a table with flyers.
  • Membership –
  • Advancements - Council received 14 scouts Advancing that were not Registered.
  • Training – My BSA site, chart who was trained.
  • Advancement – Jeff Wilson will continue working with advancements. Ben and Patti will work with Jeff. Need a list of all the Eagle Scouts for the last year and half, so Steve can post them on the Web.
  • Web-Master – Steve – moving right along. Council has everything on-line. Most updated information. Date & Times of events must notify Web-Master. Steve asked about the district minutes being posted on Web. Steve made a motion to post a summary of the minutes on the Web. John Hensley 2nd the motion. Discussions were made. Patti will write up a summary of the minutes and e-mail to everyone for approval. District has 48 hours to respond. Program – Dates approved by Ben Skiles.
  • Twilight Camp – Needs first aid person for Thurs. 3-8PM, they must be Certified in CPR. Jen and Cheryl might have it covered with a nurse. Becky might have an EMT.
  • OA – John Ganaway – 3 attended ordeal, they had 29 elected youths, and 2 elected adults. Next ordeal July 17th, 18th, and 19th, at Pollock. Real live active members they have 1 adult and 2 youths. You can get information on the OA on-line at GEC web-site, go to program, then OA. With more boys they will do the Flag ceremonies at Roundtable. Conclave – September 15th, 16th, and 17th in Dixon. John will send out letters to boys about the Conclave and to pay their dues. Dixon may fair have 20 OA youth dancers on Saturday. Steve wants pictures if John can get them.
  • Program planning – ASK for HELP. Becky has a check-up list.
  • Jen Hein and Cheryl will train someone for Twilight Camp next year. It will be their last year.
  • We are behind $11,000 on our F.O.S. this year.
  • Nominating committee will meet June 22nd to fine a District Chairman.
  • Steve would like a summary of all events, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, place winners for the web-site.
