Activities......
Individual Trailblazer Packs and Troops have meetings, outings and advancements throughout the year. For special events, we also plan Trailblazer District events which involve all the Packs and Troops. These are more repetitive, and there is planning going on for one or more of them at all times. Planning is carried out by volunteer units and individuals and more volunteer planners and leaders are always needed. When plans are firmed up enough for dissemination to all the units, we will post the most up to date information. Your primary source for what's going on in the district remains Roundtable on the first Thursday of the month. The web page will provide a handy backup to Roundtable, and will contain the most up to date information on changes. In addition to these activities, other events pop up that involve the whole district and will also have an information page. Here is a brief description of our recurring events - individual web pages are on the navigation bar to the left.
- Annual District Activities
- Popcorn Sales - A way for scouters to earn money to advance their scouting skills. Held at various times during the year, but mostly in the Fall.
- Weboree - A chance for Webelos Scouts and Boy Scouts to camp out together and for Webelos to see the patrol concept in action. Normally held in the Fall.
- Scouting for Food - An annual event that covers the whole city asking for and picking up food donations for the local food banks. Held just before Thanksgiving.
- Merriment on Main - Scouts get together to go Christmas caroling during the lighting of the town Christmas Tree at the end of November. The streets are crowded with carolers and we try to stay together.
- Christmas Tree Pickup- Individual units pick up Christmas Trees as a fund raiser. To prevent units interfering with each other, we sit down and agree which units will cover which areas.
- Merit Badge Trail Drive - Held in late January/early February, it is three weekends where Boy Scouts can earn 1-3 Merit Badges of the two dozen or so that are offered.
- Pinewood Derby - Cub Scouts build their own race cars from kits and race them on a timed track. Top cars from each unit, normally in early spring, then compete in the District Pinewood Derby.
- Camporee - A competitive campout for Boy Scouts, with instruction and competition on outdoor scouting skills. Normally Held in the Spring.
- Adult Recognition Night - a dinner (or dessert) honoring all of the adults who volunteer and make the units work. Normally held some time in May.
- Fiesta Day Parade - During Vacaville Fiesta Days (last weekend in May), the District likes to enter a float, designed and manned by the units, to show off scouting.
- Scout Twilight Camp - a week long Cub Scout summer camp in the afternoon and evenings where Cubs can have fun and complete advancement requirements (June-July).
