Online registration must be completed and fees paid ($8.00 per car) on or before the registration deadline, February 24th 2019.

Championship: Fastest 3 Derby cars in each rank will race for the overall District Champion.

Eligible registrants are 1st through 4th place winners for each rank (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos I & AOL) in Pack Pinewood Derby.  Webelos I and Arrow of Light will race together so only include the top 4 from this category.

 

Following your Pack Pinewood Derby, the cars must be held (and not modified) by a Pack representativePack representative should bring the cars to the check-in.

 
To Register your Scouts:  Select the total number of Cub Scouts you are registering and enter the names, ranks, and other requested information for each Scout.

2019 Pinewood Derby Rules:

1. The width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.

2. The length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.

3. The weight of the car shall not exceed 5.0 ounces.

4. The bottom clearance between the car and track must be a minimum of 3/8”.

5. Disc wheels are not permitted.   

6. Wheel base may be lengthened and car shall not exceed 7 inches.

7. All four wheels must make contact with the track.

8. The official black BSA wheels from the kit must be used. No colored BSA wheels are permitted. Wheel seams, casting marks and imperfections may be removed. No other wheel alterations are permitted.

9. The official axles from the kit must be used. Axles may be de-burred and shank rings removed. Axles may be polished, and straightened or bent to correct wheel alignment. No other axle alterations are permitted. Dry lubricant may be applied to the axles.

10. Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited. The car shall not ride on any kind or type of springs.

11. Any details added must be within length, width, and weight limits.

12. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.

13. Only dry lubricant, graphite or white Teflon, is permitted.

14. Once the cars have passed inspection, only PWD Race officials will handle them. No modifications or changes will be allowed.

15. Car starters will place the cars on the track at the starting line.  All other people must remain behind the barrier.  The starter will make sure the cars are on the track properly and then will start the race.

16. Each car will race once in each lane.  An electronic timer will measure the elapsed time of each car’s races and declare the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners based on the fastest cumulative time.

17. If a car leaves the track, runs out of its lane, interferes with another car, loses an axle, etc., the heat will be rerun.  If the same car gets into trouble on the second run, the contestant is disqualified and automatically loses that race.  If on the second run, another car is interfered with, the heat will be run a third time but without the disqualified car.

18. If, during the race, a wheel falls off of the car or becomes otherwise damaged, then the SCOUT may, to the best of his ability, perform repairs with the assistance of his adult partner or Pit Crew-member. The Racer and Pit Crew shall be allowed 2 minutes to perform repairs and re-qualify for racing.  This time may be extended upon the approval of the Track master. The car shall be re-qualified for racing in accordance with Rules above.

19. Lion Scouts will be the first to race, followed by Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, Open Race

20. Each derby car must qualify for the race at check-in the night prior to the race.   Once the car has passed inspection it will remain in the possession of the derby coordinator.
