2013 Philmont Council Contingent
Do you want adventure?
The Golden Empire Council has reserved 3 high adventure trail crews at Philmont Scout Ranch of 12 persons each for the summer of 2013 and is now taking registrations.
What is Philmont?
Philmont Scout Ranch is a 137,493 acre working ranch and Boy Scout camp in the rugged, majestic Sangoe de Coisto Mountains and backcountry of northeastern New Mexico, fascinating backcountry program area (like rock climbing, all kinds of shooting, fly tying and fishing, mining, homesteading, horse riding, chuck wagon dinners and many more) and 330 miles of challenging hiking trails. Each trail crew will decide on it’s own adventure from the 35 itineraries. To learn more about Philmont Scout Ranch and the high adventure opportunities there, visit their website at http://philmontscoutranch.org/About.aspx and view the great videos.
What is a Trail Crew?
A Philmont trail Crew is not a registered Boy Scout unit like an Adventure Crew, but is a group of 12 Scouts and/or Scouters backpacking though Philmont. Each crew must have two adult and may have up to four. You are not joining another scouting unit; your Troop is just fine. But remember the total contingent is only 36 people and we already have 28 people registered. So register ASAP.
The trek will make daily stops at backcountry program areas: things like, horse back riding, burro packing and racing, cowboy action shooting, gold mining and panning, rock climbing, mountain biking and many other program ideas.
When
The Contingent will depart Sacramento airport on Saturday, June 22, 2013 and return Friday, July 5.
You will begin your Philmont Adventure Sunday, June 23 at lunch and it will end Friday July 5 with breakfast. Three meals going and two returning will be included.
Who can go?
Any registered scout age 13 or who has completed the 8th grade.
Trip includes:
A 12 day Philmont Backcountry backpacking adventure
All air and ground transportation
1 extra day’s stay in New Mexico
Meals while traveling
And a contingent Tee Shirt
Cost: $1,700
A payment plan is available. Go to the 2013 Philmont Council Trek registration link to view the file “Philmont Payment Schedule”.
It is extremely important when you register; you create a “MyGCELogin” account in the name of the participant, if they do not have one already. The event system keeps the registration under the first name on the registration and in this case it’s the participant. Using the “MyGECLogin” will let you re-enter your registration to make payments on-line or print a payment ticket for off-line payments, both will ensure that your payment is credited to the right participant.
Rick advisory and Philmont Weight Limits for Backpacking and Hiking.
There are some ricks due to the backcountry nature of Philmont. For this reason all Philmont participants have to be in excellent health and will be required to have and turn-in a completed “Annual Health and Medical Record including Parts A, B, C, D. Each trek participant must not exceed the maximum acceptable limit in the weight for height chart. For more information on the Ricks and Philmont’s weight standards, go to the 2013 Philmont Council Trek registration link to view the file “Rick advisory and Philmont Weight Limits”.
