Purpose of the Order of the Arrow
To be recognized as Scouting’s National Honor Society and an integral part of every council. Our service, activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults, are models of quality leadership development and programming that enrich, support, and help extend Scouting to America’s youth.

To develop, maintain, and improve camping traditions and spirit for both Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouting program.
Ø
To promote Scout camping, which reaches it’s greatest effectiveness as a part of the unit’s camping program, both year-round and in the summer camp, as directed by the camping committee of the council.

To make available leadership training for younger Scouts
Ø
To crystallize the scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others. To give a greater commitment to service, i.e., helping Scout troops develop better-quality and more creative programs.
Election into the Order of the Arrow
The requirements for election into the Order are as stated in the newest version of the National Guidelines. Following are the guidelines.
Each candidate on the ballot for an election into the Order of the Arrow must meet the following to be elected:
1)
Have Scout spirit
2)
Adhere to the Sout Oath and Law in both public and private life
3)
Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America as a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout
4)
Hold a minimum of the First Class Rank in the Boy Scouts of America
5)
After registration with a troop or team, have experienced fifteen days and nights of Boy Scout camping during the two-year period prior to the election. The fifteen days and nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps.
