SALMON FALLS BRIDGE to PENINSULA POINT
The Salmon Falls Bridge can be reached from Auburn, Placerville or Highway 50 near Folsom.
From Auburn or Placerville take Highway 49 to Pilot Hill. Approaching Pilot Hill from either direction there will be a sign for Rattlesnake Bar Road, Folsom Lake 9 miles. After turning onto Rattlesnake Bar Road, take the first left turn onto Salmon Falls Road. Salmon Falls Road goes without any stops to the Salmon Falls Bridge. Just before you reach the bridge there is a turnoff and parking area on the right side of the road.
From Folsom go east on Highway 50 to the El Dorado Hills Blvd Turnoff. Turn north on El Dorado Hills Blvd and go to Green Valley Road. Cross over Green Valley Road and the road turns into Salmon Falls Road. Stay on the road until you cross the Salmon Falls Bridge...

...then take the first turnoff on the left.
At the end of the parking area is the trailhead.

The trail splits near the beginning.

Take the lower trail. The first part of the trail runs along a real steep side of the hill.

The dirt is loose here so be careful. The trail from the Salmon Falls Bridge to the Peninsula Campground is the Darrington Trail and it is joined at many places by other trails. Along the trail in the next picture...

...you will be walking on the trail from the right side of the picture to the bottom of the picture.

...you will be walking on the trail from the right side of the picture to the bottom of the picture.

...you will go onto the narrow trail on the left side of the picture.
As you come around Hancock Creek Cove, the narrow trail runs into a wider trail at the bottom of the hill.

Once you are around the Deep Ravine Cove you will come to an intersection with the Ridge Trail (see map also).


Here you will see a trail sign. You are in the Peninsula Campground and all trail intersections here are marked with a trail sign. Turn right onto the Ridge Trail.
Follow the Ridge Trail until you see the next trail sign.

Turn right unto the narrow trail and follow it to the next trail sign.

Go to the left of the sign and continue down the hill until you reach a paved road.

You have arrived at the entrance of the Peninsula Campground.
