At 14,496 feet elevation, Mt. Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48 states. The peak and the trails that approach it lie within the John Muir and Sequoia National Park Wilderness Areas in the Inyo Nationsl Forest.
Mt. Whitney is an extremely popular wilderness destination. Mt. Whitney visitors should always practice Leave-No-Trace. Also, Mt. Whitney visitors must always pack-out their solid human waste. Wilderness Permits are required. Quotas apply during the peak season. See the links below for more details.
Grass Valley's Troop 4 and Roseville's Troop 11 are attempting a Veteran's Day (NOV 9-12, 2007) weekend ascent of Mount Whitney! This page will chronicle their trek. Stay tuned for more!
Friday, Nov. 9 – Leave 3:30PM from Scout Hall and travel to Mt Whitney. Spend night at campsite along the way.
Monday, Nov. 12 – Leave Trail Camp to Whitney Portal and drive home. Arrive home 8 hours later.

Conditioning workouts for this trek:
2 times a week min. with a backpack and build up to 35 lbs.
Workout includes hiking at least 3-5 miles and includes ascents and descents.
Utilizing stair master is great. 30 mins will work great.
