| Training - NYLT Registration for 2008 |
Posted Mar. 28, 2008 |
The Golden Empire Council is pleased to announce the dates for the 2008 National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) courses.
The NYLT course is run by a youth staff of troop leaders and instructors, who work closely with their adult staff advisors. Scouts and their patrols will have the opportunity to practice and experience enhanced leadership skills firsthand, guided by the principles of the Scout Oath and Law. NYLT is also designed to strengthen the critical relationship between the Scoutmaster and his youth leaders.
Results indicate that Scouts who have completed NYLT return to their troops with a toolbox of specific skills that enable them to understand better their roles as leaders. They can shape the direction of their troops. Each Scout returns to his home troop knowing not only how the troop functions, but why. He is better equipped to communicate with boys and with adults, to plan, to guide, and to help the troop to function as a high-performance unit.
To participate, a Scout must be at least a First Class Scout, 13 years old, and currently filling a leadership position in your Troop, or be eligible for a leadership position. Each candidate, along with his Scoutmaster, will be required to attend an orientation session prior to the course.
The SPRING course will be held in May at Camp Pollock. This offering is a TWO weekend course being held the weekends of May 2nd and May 16th. The course starts on Friday evening with check-in at the Council Service Center beginning at 5:00PM and finishes Sunday evening at 5:30PM at Camp Pollock.
The summer course is at Camp Lassen. This course starts Monday, August 11th with check-in at noon and finishes on Saturday, August 16th.
The cost for either course is $200.00 per participant. There is $50.00 non-refundable deposit due at registration. The balance of the fee MUST be paid in full no later than ten (10) days before the course starts (April 22, 2008 for the spring course and August 1, 2008 for the summer course).
Watch here for the availability of on line registration!
Registration is first come, first served with no limits on the number of youth a unit may send.
To access the GEC NYLT home page follow these steps: On the Council’s main page, click Program, select Training, then on the left side of the Training page, select Youth Training, then click on NYLT. This will take you to the NYLT home page.
