Scouting Odyssey

SCOUTING ODYSSEY

Set your sights on Scouting Odyssey, a Council wide adventure opportunity for Scouts and Scouters of all levels. After the opening ceremony on May 1, participants have a month to explore locations throughout the Council or their neighborhoods, do outdoor activities, play new games, or learn about nature before closing ceremony on May 31.

All of these activities can become the basis of future den, pack, patrol or troop activities as units move to more relaxed summertime schedules.

Registration will be up within the week—$5/participant gives registrants access to all of the instructions to complete any activities.  Every registered participant will receive a patch and a fillable certificate to commemorate his or her achievements.

ELECTRICIANS AND PLUMBERS NEEDED!

It is our number one priority to keep camp safe and fun for our campers. In order to do this, we need your help. We are looking for skilled electricians, plumbers, and contractors that would be willing to help us maintain our camps and properties. There are several projects that we are hoping to accomplish before the summer camp season starts. If you can help or know someone who can, please call Greg Anderson at 435-799-5308 or email gregory.anderson@scouting.org.

Merit badge counselors wanted

LOOKING FOR MERIT BADGE COUNSELORS

While we are planning on holding an in-person camp experience, we understand that some of our families won't feel comfortable attending those this summer. We will be holding a virtual camp the last week of July and are asking for any merit badge counselors that would be willing to help with that. For each of the badges, we will be pre-filming some of the requirements at camp but we need someone to teach the interactive requirements. If you are interested, contact Greg Anderson at 435-799-5308 or gregory.anderson@scouting.org. We will be teaching the following badges but if you would like to add something we don't have on the list, let us know. Here are some of what we are looking for:

  • Movie Making
  • Communications
  • Personal Management
  • Citizenship in the Nation
  • Mining in Society
  • Inventing
  • Geocaching

Camp-o-ree

CAMP-O-REE IS COMING

Spring is coming, and with it the start of outdoor Scouting adventures!

Some districts are starting to plan in-person spring Camp-O-Rees with closing campfires:  American River, Northern Rivers, Placer, Three Rivers, and Yolo.  All are aware of the changing restrictions and the possibility of changing from camping to a day-only to a lower contact version or to postpone to the Fall.  Your district could use help with its event, check with your district leadership.

There is a Council level committee starting to work on a Camp-O-Ree program that can be done by Scouts and their families, or in den and patrol groups if restrictions allow.  It will be a menu of options for outdoor adventures in areas throughout the Council.  This will not be a set of ZOOM meetings but rather challenges to be done outdoors, like the Camptober and Centennial Quest programs.  If you would like to help with the planning, email Kathy Neuburger, istahap@jps.net.

Platinum, Top-rated, Reviewed

GEC-BSA is investment ready....

Golden Empire Council is a ‘2020 Top-Rated’ nonprofit.  That status is tied to our previously qualified-for rating of transparency as a ‘2020 GuideStar Platinum’ nonprofit.

If we add these recognitions to our local ‘Reviewed’ status with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, and the BSA’s own Council Journey to Excellence GOLD (For 2016 thru 2019) it’s a powerful endorsement to donors that we are worthy of their investments.

So thanks again for all who helped
in getting us to here for 2021!
